*EPIC TRIP* Taking my Trail on the Trail!!

Hey man - awesome read. I haven't gotten through all of the videos, but I did read through the whole thread.

Just wondering - apart from your "adventures" getting stuck in the snow, were there any sections of the TAT that you considered problematic/sketchy?

I'm considering maybe doing a portion of the trail in a year or two (if not the whole thing - not sure). If I do, I would probably bring my son, who is pretty small - he'd probably be 7 when I was going. Not sure I want to be getting stuck in the middle of nowhere with him. I'm not sure about this undertaking with a little guy, but it would be pretty awesome.

If I don't do the whole thing, I'd probably be looking at going as far as Colorado - maybe to Denver and then taking the paved roads up into the Rockies for a bit. Just wondering if there were other sketchy parts of the trail before that point. (I did read about the wet clay roads!)

There are not really any sketchy parts that I came across most if the roads are in good shape. However I missed a few legs due to weather. Each time I went to a mtn pass I always made sure that I had 3days water and food and full tank gas. Once I passed Mississippi River I stopped every gas station if I was .5 tank or lower to be safe. I think you would be OK but I would think that a 7yr old may would get bored it's alot of driving and lots of back tracking for example I left Amarillo and made it home in like 1.5 days. The Trail took I think 5or7 days to get to OK. I wouldn't go again without a winch and Max trax or at least 1.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still just rolling the idea around in my brain. I think my kid would actually be ok with driving now, but he's also younger and easily amused and fascinated. lol Not sure that will last.

I'm hoping to do some shorter road trips this year, so I'll see how he handles it, and see if I can get him to buy into the idea.

GREAT NEWS!!!​

So I have made the decision that I will be taking the trail again! I hope to be bringing my wife along this time. We are shooting for Sept-Oct 2017 I hope to at least get a rtt and small lift prior to going this time. I will also at least get some max trax or similar if I dont get a winch!! Im really excited and cant wait! Stay Tuned as I will try to document the build some more.

Is everyone ready?? I will be traveling the Trans America Trail in Sept!!!! This time however I will be taking the whole trail since I was derailed by both mother nature and my own personal desires last time also I will be taking my wife of 14yrs, and let me tell ya this will prove to be very entertaining!!! I saw you today on Old Orangeburg and Two Notch, i was like damn I know that truck looks familiar!! yeah we do need to hook up and hit either gulches or some of the other free stuff thats around

Haha cool, idk how I'm just seeing this. But I went to gulches for the first time right after the new year. It was great. Let me know!
