error code help!!!

well its that time again for me to post, to ask questions for my dad's car:

car: 1996 toyota 4 runner SR5

problem: check engine light came on. so i dug into my wallet and bought the actron scanner. the error code i got was P0505, and it shows "vehicle speed idle speed control auxiliary input malfunction."

solution: any suggestions on how i should start trouble shooting this? car does idle at 700rpms.

from what i could find, you should check your throttle position sensor...

I don't know if the throttle controls are the same on your '96 as on my '02, but for mine, that code would mean either:

1. Something wrong with the PCV valve or its connections.

2. You're getting air coming in from somewhere else (ensure oil cap and dipstick are in properly, and check all hoses and connections in air intake system.)

3. Or one of these three (throttle position sensor, accelerator pedal position sensor, or throttle control motor) isn't working correctly.
