error code p0430

Hello Everyone, I am in need of some help.

I have a 2003 4 runner sr5 with the 4.0 v6 engine - 200,000km

I was pulling a boat out of the water the other day, and the CEL light came on as well as trac off and TSC lights.

firstly , I disconnected the battery , just to see if it went away, and it did for about 300 km, then came back on.

So I bought a blue tooth OBD2 scanner (Elm327?) and the "Torque" ap. It gives me some issues as well, often not connecting to teh ECU, and making the abs light flash.. but at least I was able to scan the code, p0430.

I cleared the code but the Trac and TSC lights were still on. I did a "zero point calibration" and that fixed it.

Then all the lights came back on again after maybe 50 km.

I have been doing a bunch of research to figure out what the issue is, and it seems it could be many things cost 20$ to 2000$.

I was hoping someone can help me out with where to start, I don't have a lot of money to give to the dealer ship to just make my problem go away.

Mine does the same, intermittently anywhere from 500-1000 miles and will stay on for 50-150 miles then off again. I've just gotten used to it I guess... After ruling out a few causes I am almost sure it's the need to wipe clean the MAF - just need to take the time to do it!

Had the same issue, I replaced both upstream O2 sensors and it fixed the problem. Each sensor was $119.00 from RockAuto. You'll need to buy a O2 wrench to remove the sensors. You can buy them pretty cheap at Harbor freight. I also had to use PB Baster Penetrating Oil and a ratcheting breaker bar to get the sensor off. The driver side is a pain in the a** to get too and its best to get it from under the truck. Also, its best to remove the drivers side tire.

Would my issue be the REAR (driver side) sensor? if so , the only way to get at it is from under the truck, and it wouldn't' help at all to remove the tire?

Or am I vastly mistaken?

Are you thinking about the O2 sensor after the CAT? P0430 would be for the o2 sensor before the CAT (driver side). For that one I had to remove the front tire. Now, if you have long arms and your small enough, you can get to the connecter without removing the front tire.

I have seen many references to this being the rear one. Can we get some other people to chime in on this? Also to 4X4 Runner, ... how do you know it is the front one?
