Estimated Front Brake Pad Life?

Does anyone have any input to how long the front pads should last? I know it will depend on how you drive and other factors, but I am looking for a rough estimate. I currently have 25,000 miles on my 2010 SR5.

What was the last mm's they gave you at the dealer when you were in for service?

I will have to check the paperwork, I am not even sure if they checked the brakes when they did the service.

If the dealership did your service I would be shocked if they did not! I get a 'form' when I walk out showing their 'inspection' of the 4R, including the mm's left on each pad (now whether what they write here is true is another argument).

On the Taco I would get 50-60 thousand miles, would expect similar or slightly less on the T4R. If you don't know to downshift on grades when driving in the mountains, you can probably cut that number in half.

on my last service at 32,000 km (20,000 miles) dealer report shows that front pads is 9.2 mm (0.36 inches) and rear pads are 7.4 mm (0.29 nches). They said it's a little bit less than half of pads life, I hope that won't have to change pads at least for next 20,000 miles.

My truck has about 32000 miles on it now and I finally had time to check the front pads, they still have a lot of material left. I tow a camper and drive in the mountains frequently and the pads still look like they have at least another 15-20K miles left.

I'm currently at 52,000 and my brakes were in the 7's.....and that was 5000 miles ago.

I think I may get to 60-65 before they need it.

I currently have 35K miles on mine with the pads 1/2 gone. I will get 55-60K before changing. Driving conditions matter...a lot. Mine is mostly interstate.

Yeah, me too. I also just hit 30k on my 2010. The pads are still very good, and I expect another 20-30k more miles. I'm amazed about how long brake's last these days. My 4th gen never needed brakes the entire time I owned it, in fact, I traded it in on my 5th with 60k (or so) miles on it.

Does anyone know how many mm a brand new pad has?

Mine went for over 40k including over 5k pulling a 3000# camper. I did not measure them before trade in, but I would expect most to get more than I did.

27175 miles on my 2011 LTD, went in for dealer services Wednesday pass, brake-pads were 8mm fronts, 7mm rear, tires were 10/32nds all around with 35psi. Everything's green on the inspection form. :thumb3:

At 60,000 mine were 6mm front and 8 mm rear. I've put on more than 10000 miles since then and the brakes are still fine, no squealling yet.

I'm planning on replacing my rotors along with my pads when the time comes. I'm getting some pulsing when heavy braking. I'm checking the brakes when I rotate my tires and they still look like they have plenty of life.

Just replaced my front and back brake pads at 51,000 miles. Obtained vehicle in February 2011. Probably do equal amount of city and highway driving. Aside from PM, this was the first repair job on the rig. Still pleased.

I replaced my pads (all around) at between 55K and 60K miles. Didn't replace the rotors, but did have them turned (work done at DucMonsta's shop). Pretty happy with the longevity, and new pads are cheap! like $45/set for the OEMs.

Bumping this old thread with some new data:

Just replaced my front and rear brake pads for the first time on my 2016 T4R, at 61,000 miles.

Rears were down to 2mm, and fronts were around 4mm.

I tow a ~1,700lb trailer over mountain passes in the Sierra Nevada several times a year -- I'm pretty surprised they lasted this long honestly.

65K on my 2013 TE, front and rear pads 2 months ago looked about the same thickness at the backing plates.
