Ethanol Gasoline Mileage Improvement

I have about 10 empty, 6 ounce bottles from the Gumout/Regane, concentrated fuel system cleaner. These bottles are carried in the T4R and I re-use these to refill with the mix. I pre-mix the combo of TC-W3 in an empty Quart Marvel Mystery oil bottle.

I add 16 ounces of TC-W3, to the empty MMO bottle, then I pour in 16 ounces of Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner. Shake vigorously until combined and then fill the empty 6 ounce bottles with the mix.

I use one whole 6 ounce bottle on a empty T4R tank at the pump. I store these remaining pre-filled bottles in my T4R, in a Tall Empty Folgers Coffee can from Costco. The bottles fit secure in the container, with the lid, readily available at fill up time. I leave the refilling quart of MMO at home and only use it when all the 6 ounce bottles are all empty and need to be re-filled.

Only my personal observation, and sorry that it is not on a 4Runner. I had a flex fuel Ford Explorer that could ingest E-85, so the difference in gas mileage was significantly pronounced: when using E-85, mpg went down 21-23% when hand calculated.

I once did a calculation that let me know when to buy E-85. It had to be better than something like 18 cents a gallon cheaper versus gas to break even on the consumption rate, since a gallon of E-85 doesn't burn as hot and get you as far down the road as regular.

I don't mind using ethanol-infused gasoline, but I am the ultimate consumer for that particular product: cheaper (while being of sufficient quality so as to not damage my engine) is what I am going to buy. As many miles as I drive a year for my job, the cheaper option is not insignificant. "Green" products that cost more for same or less performance (while politically correct and popular) are not at the top of my cost-sensitive list.

Thanks for the info. How much does your fuel additive mixture add to the cost of each tank?

I picked up 2 quarts of Pennzoil, 2 Stroke Engine Oil, TC-W3 on clearance last week at Target. If you are near a Target store check it out and see if they have any left. The price was $2.40 a quart and it will do the job nice.

They are also having a clearance sale a Target on PYB Dino in all weights and Formula Shell Dino in all weights. So, if you use Dino oil, like me, for your OCI check out Target for the oil and the TC-W3. Good price for the oils.

Well, I see ethanol has been being used in aprts of the US for many years now. Well it just came to my province in Eastern Canada a week or so ago. I have my first tank full of 10% ethanol fuel in my 4Runner (guess that would make it E10) and although I am not quite empty on this tank run (so I don't have the hand calculated numbers yet) based on the onboard computer, I have lost 1 mpg.

My last 2 fillups were both 15mpg exactly (hand calculated) with the same driving patterns and weather conditions as this tank... and my onboard is showing a 1mpg less then it did on the on-board on the previous two tanks.

My inboard on the previous two tanks was showing 16.2mpg (were both 15mpg hand calculated) and its now showing 15.2mpg so I suspect my hand calculated will be around 14mpg. I'll know for sure when I fiull up in another day or two.

This ontop of the prices going up $0.65/gal since October.

I may end yp trying the mix blend suggested above and see what effect that has.

I saw a link to the 'original' TCW3 thread on ls1.com while looking into ethanol in fuel (We now have E10 here, it used to be E5 maximum)

Out of curiosity I thought I would try it as it made sense. I have no problems with the idea, as TCW3 is ashless and designed to be burned. My previous Suzuki chewed through engine oil due to bad valve seals and the plugs were black and it never had any catalyst or sensor problems.

Anyway here are official emissions figures on a 1:500 mix. It passed, easily.

I also think it could be good for the fuel pump etc to add a little lubricity.

15% Ethanol ??

I have heard that 15% ethanol is headed this way, I know it's bad for the fuel lines in weedeaters, chainsaws, etc. Supposed to deteriorate the fuel lines.....No worries, all electric is here to save the day....rsbhunter
