Evap Canister '02 sr5 3.4 v6

so i bought a nice new runner from a private seller, CLEAN RIDE. After the first month popped a CEL. Turned out to be the common p0446 for the Evap can. LAME! Turns out that he was probably topping off the tank, and since i didnt realize that was bad (until now) I was doing it also:sobbing:. I CHECKED CAR-PARTS.COM, ONLY 1 AVAILABLE FOR MY TRUCK! UGH!! cleared the code and it took 2 weeks, but its back. ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET AN EVAP CAN, besides the STEALORSHIP! My mechanic buddy cant even get a discount on it...HELP! Thanks Guys

I have a spare in the garage, thought it was the issue for my cel for awhile but turned out it was a hole in a vapor line. PM me and I'll give you a price.

It's either got 180k or zero, can't remember which one I put back on after I fixed my issue. Ill look when I get home later today.

you might want to look into your gas cap before spending the $$$ on the more pricey parts. i got p0446 last month and also noticed there was no pressure in the system when i took the cap off to refuel. found my gas cap had a tiny crack in it. i replaced the cap and it fixed my problem.

If the gas cap switch doesn't work, i found my leak by turning my air compressor regulator down to like 20-30psi and pumped it down the VSV line (think that is which one it is), found the leak in about 30 seconds.

Just unplugged it on the side that heads to the tank, has a green cap plug thing on the line for the actual toyota service unit. this is just above the wheel well on the driver front side. Then hooked this to it for a decent seal.

once the tank pressured up, i could hear the leak coming from it and plugged it up, no more code.

Thanks for the answers. Definately checked the gas cap, screws on tight and no cracks, definitely pressure in the tank.
-dont really have the air compressor, but i have a buddy that may be able to help check for leaks.
Could it be possible that one of the Vsv's is bad? Or would it be best to just replace it all in a bundle if it is the canister.
Ive got a couple hundred bucks for a canister if its in good shape...been burned before so not looking to lose money.

Hey Broker, any way that you can take a better picture of where you are at in the engine bay and what line you are unhooking and putting pressure into?

I am DzastrousRunR's buddy with a 96 however the evap and vsv stuff is different on mine and his.

Have already checked the gas cap and it is good. I figured it is one of the VSV's or the evap can but if its possibly just a cracked line, that save him some green that he can then pay me to help him out (jk haha)

so I checked for the leaks in the lines, nothing that i could find or hear.
-also bought a new gas cap, definitely a better seal, but the CEL came back on in 3days AAARRRGGGG!!! :happens:

looks like il be replacing the evap and the valves. any good prices on a spare evap in good condition?

Hey sorry I missed that last post asking about where to pressureize but I guess you figured something out. I still have my OEM evap can if you want to try it next. If you have a repair manual you should be able to check each valve to make sure they are functioning. Also in the manual it should give ways to check all the diphrams inside the evap canister.

I have an 01 with the same code for about a year. I replaced the fuel cap but I still don't get the pressure release when I open the fuel cap. Is there a way to check the cap?

in texas it is part of the state inspection. go to someone that does inspections iam sure they would ck it for you...

I have never had anyone in Texas check my cap. Maybe I should take it some where else..
