Evap canister refurb with pics
This info might help others.
Evap canister is all mechanical without electronics and easy to cut open and refurbish the charcoal and make sure all the valves and filter media are in good order.
Basic procedure:
-Remove canister- blow test all the valves. Most are one way so looking for flow in one direction and sealed in the other.
-Cut open both sides of the canister to access the carbon and inspect the thin filter layer that keeps the granules from the valves. A good method here can be hot blade- heat a utility cutter, cut, repeat.
-Remove granules and inspect filter. Mine was fine. If yours is not you may have to improvise a solution using similar material and silicone or other methods to fix in place and seal.
-Replace granules with a good equivalent. I chose some good dense aquarium granules.
-Plastic weld the cut outs back in place. This can take some practice to get a flow.
-Test the valves again to make sure the plastic welds are sealed. If you really melt and fold and smooth the welding thoroughly it should be pretty obvious if the welds are sealed IMO.
That's really it. I hope this can inspire others to give it a try and save some money.
