Everyones Opinion on the Scion TC

The Scion TC is marketed to the college/20's age customers. With that in mind they went for semi sporty while gas friendly and overall affordable car. One thing I don't like is that many think this is a chick car. Being a college student myself I like the TC for what its worth. Here are some positive and negative aspects of this car.
Pros: Sporty look and feel, gas friendly, affordable, comes in 6speed manual.

Cons: 4cylinder, 80% of people I see in them are chicks, overall is a souped up Corolla.

Do you like this car or not? Did Toyota hit the target or is this just another rice burning, fart can sounding car on the road?

I'm a 20 year old college student and I think it's a decent car. Would I buy one? No way. Like you said, it's a girls car.

I really don't see too many of them on the road.

Yeah I think it is a fine car but I would never buy it new. I would buy used a g35, 3series, 350z or anything like that if I was in the market for a 2 door car. The new subi/toyota concept car coming out soon which might be a scion looks pretty sweet!!

I'm curious why you r asking this question.

Not for me. I'm a college student as well but I'm not into alot of FWD cars, especially when their slower than my truck when it was stock. Some are nice but I've seen some at my school falling into the ricer section, not good. What Toyota should have done was a AE86 revival when they did the TC. A small FR car is alot more fun to drive than a FF imo. I think the new FT-86 coming out will be a much nicer car than the TC.

I generally liked the TC but not the fact that it was pretty much a souped up Corolla, I'm trying to see if others feel the same. I am not looking at buying one I'm just curious.

TC has no appealing features, get an E36 M3 if you want a Cheap quick Manual car!!!

My wife drives a '07 tC. It currently has around 106,000 miles on it, and it has been a great little car. It has been very reliable and gets decent mileage. She averages 30-31 mpg driving mostly interstate every day. I imagine one of the new 6 speeds would get better mileage than her 5 speed, too. For what it is, the car is relatively fun to drive. Our only complaints are:

1) The stock-sized tires are REALLY expensive for such a cheap car. She spent nearly as much on tires for it recently as I did for my Z06 tires. We could probably put some aftermarket wheels on it and open up our options here.

2) For a commuter car, it's a little noisy on the highway, especially as the tires get near the end of their life. However, it retailed for $17057 so I don't expect it to be as quiet inside as a Lexus.

As for being a "girl car", it has never bothered me at all when I drive it. Sure it isn't the most masculine thing on the road, but I don't need my car to prove my manliness.

A few months ago after i sold my IS300 i went looking for a good commuter car. I started off looking for a cheap early 80's Corolla FWD 4dr (not the hachi) but finding one that was in decent shape for a reasonable price wasn't happening. I slowly raised my price point and actually ended up buying an 07 tC.

It doesn't have the sound deadening that the older Toyota or Lexus line up does. The drive by wire drives me nuts sometimes, and the 2.4 engine has too much low end power and doesn't rev high enough for my personal taste. (i still miss the built motor in my Integra that rev limits at 9k).

It is a fun car that has amazing handling for a stock car (rear sway bar upgrade will help it out a LOT), back seat room is amazing for the size of the car, the gas millage (in contrast to driving the 4runner daily) actually pays for the car. Stock HP is decent and even averages around 24mpg with me driving it very aggressively daily.

As for mine, I've got the audio system almost done, and the collection of turbo parts is almost complete.

Yes it's a 20-something year old girl's car. Yes, that's me and I don't like it whatsoever.

I guess it would be okay for the price and what it is, but I don't know. It's a LOT better than the other Scions. There are other cars out there though that are decent for the money. Other Toyotas, etc.

Get an Acura Rsx Type S. You could probably pick one up for less than $8k. Solid car IMO, I drove my rsx for 6 years, never had a problem.

I am driving a 2011 tC currently as my daily driver and really like it. It drives a lot better than the previous generation. Also, I think the newer body style looks quite a bit more masculine and aggressive. Before my DD was a fully loaded 2010 IS 350 and although the tC is definitely not as fast, its not bad to drive at all. For the money I think it is a good car to look at; great stereo (bluetooth, bluetooth audio, XM, HD radio, intergrates with ipod, usb in, line in, video in), cool features like the all glass roof, comfortable seats (both front and rear), a decent manual trans, standard curtain airbags etc... I actually fit in a tC better than I fit in a 4Runner (I am 6'2').

For the money I think it is a good car to look at; great stereo (bluetooth, bluetooth audio, XM, HD radio, intergrates with ipod, usb in, line in, video in), cool features like the all glass roof, comfortable seats (both front and rear), a decent manual trans, standard curtain airbags etc... I actually fit in a tC better than I fit in a 4Runner (I am 6'2').

Either one, the older generation is more common but the newer one has some features that make it a bit more appealing to some of the people who do not like the 1st gen. I personally think the 2nd gen. would be a great DD considering its Toyota, affordable, and like you said looks much nicer than the 1st gen.

Unfortunately, any BMW will be a pain to maintain...and the cost of maintenance may not be a good thing for college students on a tight budget.

I like the new style along with the cool new features. It is far from just a Corolla...it has IRS, disc brakes all around, and a huge 2.5L 4-cyl motor (with dual VVTi). In addition, good for any college student, it gets amazing crash test scores all around!

I'd rock the new body style one as a DD. Great looking little car I think.

Yup, i would definitely consider one, but i would probably not get it simply because of my fear of coupes (long story).
