Excessive Rattling From Underneath

Ive been hearing lots of rattling underneath while driving lately. Its driving me CRAZY!!!! I looked and found that one of the heat-shields attached to the floor is broken off of one screw. Im guessing this is also the same in the rear cause im hearing it in two different places. Anyone have a similar problem to this? Where can I find replacement parts for this? Can the shield be taken off without an issue? Im assuming its there for a reason and needs to be repalced. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

yea the heat sheilds are there for a reason. the best thing to do would be to find a way to reattach it. Add a large fender washer to the screw that was holding it or find a way to wedge it secure. keep in mind those sheilds see alot of heat so whatever you wedge in there needs to be able to withstand the heat.

I have noticed this on mine too... it seems to be more noticeable at lower RPMs, I haven't had a chance to get under it and see what it is..

Some people on here put washers on to make the hold bigger, me personally I had my mechanic friend remove mine both times the rattling started, never had a problem. They're just flimsy pieces to begin with.

Great thanks guys. Ill try using a washer. Gets really annoying and seems like a poor setup by Toyota!

I sometimes get a small piece of gravel stuck in mine. This creates the most annoying rattle at low RPM. Cruising around town at 25MPH make my truck sound cheap. All it takes is some high pressure water sprayed into the heat shield to remove it.

I noticed mine was only hanging there by its luck, all 3 bolts had been pulled through the plate. I removed it under the notion it was a heat shield and it was just a cheap piece of tin.

The extra exhaust sound permeating from under the cabin was a sure sign that I had made a mistake.

I added washers and stuck the tin plate back up and the sound has been perfect again.

If you don't mind the additional sound though you can just take it off... but I thought the sound was more annoying then the .05oz tin plate under there.

Also its a heat shields and who wants a hot spot under their cabin, and yes at the Y bend it hides behind is a great place for heat to build up.
