Excessive road noise/tire hmm/buzz

My '11 recently started getting louder and louder on the highway like tire hum or buzzing kinda hard to explain. I took it to Costco where I got tires a while back and had them rotate them and check them but they said they didn't see anything wrong. It gets louder the faster I drive and you can feel the slight vibration in the steering wheel. Anyone else have a similar problem? It's kinda driving me nuts.

What kind of tires do you have? ATs and MTs get louder with more wear. I suppose HT gets louder too.

Is it a variable sound depending on turning right/left or going straight? Could be a wheel bearing.

Nothing fancy, just Bridgestone all season tires from Costco. Only have about 6k miles on them.

If you can turn the steering right then left see if the sound and or vibe changes or goes away. if it does a good chance it is the front wheel bearings. I have done a few hub assy on other vehicles.

not a fan of Costco tire shop they sprayed my alum painted wheels with brake cleaner [acetone] destroyed them.

then they torqued the wheels down with the tire off the ground not on the ground so I got this weird vibration driving home they damaged my rear U joint .

Any way to check the bearings while its parked? Visual inspection?

Raise a tire and spin it. Mine were obvious then. How many miles on the truck? Over 70,000?

yep, I agree with the above, sounds like a wheel bearing.

Like was stated above, when driving straight rock the steering wheel back and forth. If the pitch changes, it's a wheel bearing in the front. If not it could still be a rear wheel bearing.

Let me guess. It will be front driver side.

BTW. Get a whole bearing assembly and install it as a unit. It is much less hassle and downtime than buying bearings and seals and pressing it yourself.

Btw. Are you completely stock? I am trying to gather informal data on wheel bearing life.

Checked both front wheels and there is no play in either one. Yes it is completely stock at this point. Still not ruling out these tires, i had to have them rebalanced a week after we got them due to a lot of steering wheel shimmy.

How did it sound when you spun it? Listen to the hub and see if there is a bad bearing sound. My bearings were bad but there did not have loose play yet.

Didn't sound bad, just the normal sound of the rotor spinning. Almost had to be wheel bearing though, if it were the tires it wouldn't matter if i turned the wheel to tje right to quiet it down. Called around local and no one has the whole assembly so looks like I'll be ordering online

you say when you turn right it quiets down ? if so then its the right passenger side . when turning right the load is off the right side.

if you drive the vehicle and see if the right is hotter than the left driver side , the hotter side would also indicate the bearings bad on that side .

some times these take a while to fail bad enough to be noticeable by spinning the wheels.

on rear wheel drive a rear bearing failure would cause gear oil to leak in most cases...

Yes it definitely quiets down to almost silence taking a right turn or going sharp right on a road but feeling the hum in the steering wheel made me think it might be the drivers side.

I bought mine online. There is a Toyota Tech, from Tenn. on Tacomaworld that sells a complete assembly pretty reasonable. I googled the parts and found him.

Replaced passenger side last night, still making same noise. Guess I'll do the driver's side like i originally thought next.

Does the sound go away when you put it in 4-HI?
