Excited New 2013 TE Owner with One Question

I am a long time lurker first time poster. First off I would like to thank this forum for helping me pull the trigger on a Magnetic Gray 2013 TE 4runner. I was on the fence about it, but once i went through every page of the builds section I decided I had to have one.

One thing I noticed today as I was looking around under the hood of my vehicle is that there are some very deep scratches on the exterior of the engine block (I have attempted to attach a pic but being that this is my first time i may have messed it up). Is this an issue or is this common on new engines? They are somewhat deep and there is enough sharp metal hanging off that i sliced my finger a bit.

I know I should have caught this when i was first looking at the 4runner but it was getting dark and I was excited.

I apologize if this questions has been answered before. i used the search functionality before posting. However I could not find anything related

Scratches?

I don't think these are scratches, but only lines from the block casting mold. It's getting dark now, but this will have me looking at mine tomorrow.

Your posts have me feeling more secure . I could not fathom that Toyota would let that slip through their QC process if it were really an issue.

Welcome to the family, the "scratches" are apparently normal as I too have some. Your photo posted just fine. I think you are the first one to bring this up! Be safe bud and let me be the first to warn you, you will HAVE to post a photo or two of your new TE because there are SOME members of this forum who have very short memories of what a new 4runner look like before all the moding......

Nothing to worry about. The mold opened up a bit and that was what resulted in the ridges (not cracks) you see.

What part of the US of A do you hail from? I wa originally wanting a 2013 Grey TE, but ended up with a 2012 Silver TE...it seems that the 2013 Grey's were hard to come by in my neck of the woods (Seattle).

Awesome thanks for responding guys. I feel much better about the ridges now.

@Jtraskell I will definitely post some pics tomorrow. It is dark now and the pics i have taken so far suck. Unfortunately I have already started modding . I had the dealership swap out my rims and bf goodrich all terrains from the FJ that I traded in. I also followed the directions on this forum to black out my front Toyota emblem. Now I am debating between the Gobi or the Baja Rack.

@Shamish I am in Phoenix. I originally had my heart set on black, but the nearest one was in Anaheim CA. The drive to CA and the fact that black is not the best choice of colors given the climate in AZ, led me to consider the silver and the mag grey. I finally settled on mag grey since it fell right between the black and silver on the color scale. Fortunately there were two mag grey's in the valley that I found, one with nav and one without. I snagged the one with nav. There were several salsa reds and silvers in the valley, no black and one blue.

I cant wait to hit the trails on the weekends and during the holidays.

Not scratches or cracks; they are protrusions of the cast aluminum from the molding process and completely normal.

yep got that too. I thought it was a kind of metalic paint cracking...
