Exhaust for 1999

Hi first off yes I have searched and I found differing opinions for exhausts but not the sound I want. Ok so I would like to just get a muffler and keep the stock piping , I want something that is pretty loud and sounds like the it has balls, but of I don't want something way to loud that I'm setting off alarms. My tires are real loud so I want something to overwhelm that sound. I've seen some people use magna flow muffler but I don't know which diameter and style to get and honestly I think I want something a little louder. Any help is appreciated. Let me know what you got and maybe a video of the sound. Thanks all

I just got the 40-series flowmaster on my 3rd gen, and it is perfect. It has cajones when you blip the throttle, mean as hell when you're on it, and doesn't drone on the highway. I wasn't too sure before I bought it... but after getting it, I am sold!

my vote is for the dynomax vt muffler. Great sound and no drone at normal speeds. there is drone at 90 mph though.

Do you mind posting a video of it and where you got it? I'm guessing a 2.25" diameter with center in/ order out? How long is the muffler?

Well I just picked up a cherry bomb vortex it's 13" long center in, offset out and the diameter is 2.5" total of including the pipes is like 17" is that good will it work?

I mean 14" long and a total of 18" with the pipes. So will it work?

It'll work. That's a pretty short muffler though. Might be a bit on the loud side.

Do you think too loud? Like I want that deep throaty sound and pretty loud but not way too loud and ricy that it might get me in trouble

Magnaflo.....not loud but has some rumble to it....sounds great running down the road because u can hear whos talking next to you, like with a 40 series Flo, dont get me wrong those are great mufflers but i personally think a Magnaflo sounds the best....personal prefrence though.....i also put a high performance Catalytic Converter on my T4R, but to each is on....i like the way it sounds

Ok well I stoped by Midas today and the guy told me they charge $95 a hour and he didn't know how long it will take, anyone know how long it Should take and a shop that would do it for less, I would hate to pay $40 for a muffler and pay double of that just to install it.

I had my muffler installed @ Midas for ~$150. I'm sure not all Midas' are created equal, but the one I went to did a terrible job.

For the record mine was 12" (18" overall) Borla XR-1 with 2.5" in/out. It's loud, but sounds good. It's a bit annoying in the cab though because I typically can't hear my soft spoken 2 year old when she talks.

Go to Meineke on 611 just south of Horsham Rd. Should be $75 installed.

That's pretty cheap. I'm guessing if you're replacing your muffler with one of the same size, and with the inlet/outlet in the correct location, it wouldn't take much effort to simply cut out the old and weld in the new.

However, yours is shorter than stock, so they will need to add some pipe. Also, if it's center in/center out then that will also affect the install. Personally, I think anything under $100 is a good price if they do a good job.

Had it not been for the situation I was in I definitely would not have paid $150 to have Midas do the work they done. I would have felt mildly better about the quality of work performed had it only cost me $50. Regardless of who performed the install, I think the $150 I paid is on the steep side.

I haven't replaced the muffler on my Runner yet, but had Flowmasters and Magnaflow tips installed on 3 vehicles (just cut the factory out and weld new muffler and any additional pipe on and weld on tip) for $30 each time. I buy the muffler and tip and take it to my local small shop (not a chain store). Cheap, fast and they've been welding and doing exhaust work for decades. Much cheaper way to go IMO than going to some big name place.
