I replaced just my Muffler not the pipes.
I would suggest to NOT buy a 18" offset Magnaflow as pretty sure it will fall apart inside within a 1000 miles or so.
The shorter ones and ones that have a single straight tube inside are probably just fine.
I returned that and then bought a Borla 40665 XL.
It is properly welded and does not have a 2 piece internal pipe to fall apart.
Sounds nice.

In combination with the Airaid Jr intake I am getting about 2MPG more on highway, I notice very little difference milage wise in the city, its so small I can't say if I am getting any at all.
But the highway milage for whatever reason is definately better.
Also the throttle response is much better.
The truck just feels like it breathes better.

What is a good header recommendation for a 2000 3.4L 4WD which I don't plan on doing any forced induction on?
I'm really just weighing options vs. replacing my cracked passenger side manifold which if I do both plus manifold and flange gaskets I'm looking at about $350 in parts + tax.

Look under all parts. LCE brand doesn't make one but there are at least 2 there that I saw.

I remember reading a while back that the trd exhaust is quite loud. Is that true?

I believe the TRD uses a borla muffler? At least ive been told this before.
The 18" case and shorter Magnaflow mufflers, DO have a one piece tube running through them. At least the one I bought, and the others I inspected, did.
It was the longer case (22" and longer) that had the two-piece tubes running through them, and were poorly welded together in the middle. Virtually guaranteeing failure.

low rpm its loud flicking the throttle, Normal driving around not that loud. I dont generally like exhausts, but this one works well for the truck.

You will probably have to go custom for that I think.

Thats right, it was the 22" and 24" that were the duds.

It's totally subjective, but I personally think it is loud as hell. It also has a serious drone at 60-70mph. The pipes are nice so I will probably just swap out the JBA muffler for a quieter one.

That was what I was thinking. JBA with a better muffler. To add Ive never found an aftermarket muffler not to drone. Its just going to happen no madder what at one point in time.
The best time is when your exhaust matches the drone of a car or truck next to you. Its pretty amazing when it happens. LOL.

I'm thinking a stainless Walker Quietflow muffler will do the trick. It's only been a few months and that drone has gotten so old.

Ask me on Saturday and I'll tell you if Borla drones or not! Will have it on by then, currently sitting in my living room.
Magnaflows drone for sure though.

Just got my 19" Borla muffler installed and I love it! It's the 40665 19" center/offset with no notches. $103 for the muffler and $70 for the install.
I did some research on our exhaust as well and did not change the piping at all. Our exhaust pipes downstream of the cat are actually 2.4 inches, so pretty close to 2.5 inch, changing the piping would be a waste of time. Two of the four exhaust shops I talked with said changing the piping will not even make a difference and after measuring, I believe them. The other two were trying to fleece me anyway.
As far a sounds go I don't have a device that will record audio very well so no sound clips. It is louder than stock though. Not overbearing, you can hardly hear it at idle until you hit the gas. At cruising, it does drone a little at 2000 RPMs but not nearly as much as my old Magnaflow. The sound will decrease over time as well.
It's a very deep, low rumble/growl and doesn't ever scream which is nice, I actually like being able to hear conversations in my 4Runner. Overall perfect for what I wanted. It's a performance muffler with a performance sound but doesn't say "I'm loud and annoying" like so many other trucks.
