Exhaust System Roundup

I have only had the magnaflow for about a week now but the people who say they have a drone are nuts...

...of course you can hear it through the rpm range, you just put an exhaust on your truck, but at any cruising speed i can hardly even hear it...which includes 45 and 65-80, which are the speeds im at the most.

Pretty much if your not out for sound save yourself a couple hundred bucks and go have the exhaust shop put a pretty tip on for you. And if your trying to go faster sorry but your in the wrong vehicle.

Maybe i just have a special none drone 4runner, i dont know?

03' limited v8 btw

Well, I received the Magnaflow two days ago and put it on yesterday. Already I'm tired of the interior drone. If it were just the pipe sound it would be great but you hit that certain rpm harmonic and your heads feels like it's going to pop.

Jason has seen enough of these that I'm thinking of swapping to a Gibson before I put the OEM back on.

I'll keep you posted.

BTW, the system gets so hot that the intermediate pipe has started bluing after one day. The heat gets transferred to the rubber off the hangers and I've been smelling the smell of burnt rubber since I put them on. Not sure if this is burning preservative off the pipes or really the rubber.

Bob

P.S. Anyone looking for a "like-new" Magnaflow? I've got both intermediate pipes so it will fit the V-6 or V-8.

Used to the sound now. I guess. Bluing seems to have stopped short of the visible outlets so I guess that's OK too.

Bob

I'm keeping it but thanks for the interest.

well with all the talk of all these cool other exhausts Im almost embarrassed to say that I have the FlowMaster 40 series. I have all the silencers and everything cut off and the pipe stops under the passenger side rear wheel. I wanted a clean rear end and you cant see anything from the back or the sides. the sound is sick low and its not way loud where you can hear it from far away. I recommend this for sound to anyone reading this, but as far as the HP/TQ question, I dont know how it compares to everything else out there.

I got a 2006 SR5 V6, will it be fine if I buy the Borla exhaust which is suppose to be for the V8 4runners, and put it on? Will there be any fitment issues or damanging to my 4runner? From what I've read so far, it sounds like some of you guys did put the V8 exhaust on your V6

I put the Borla system on my '04 V6 SR5, it fit just fine. As long as you install it properly, it won't damage your ride. See my sig for pics.

Can anyone that has had the Magnaflow installed for a while please provide an update on their satisfaction with the system and this dreaded drone many are referring to? I assume that the exhaust will only get louder as it is subjected to more and more heat cycles and would like to know how big of a change (if any) this has had on the drone.

I've had mine on since Thanksgiving, and while the drone was LOUD while breaking in it's not as bad now. Not quite OEM stock quiet but not that bad really after a few thousand miles.

The drone is gonna be there on any system that requires you to get rid of the stock resonator. Borla, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, whatever.

Had mine on for awhile also and drone still there but not as loud as when first installed.

I am installing the TRD CAI on wed, still curious how much louder my T4R with it.

If anyone has the TRD CAI with a cat back system, how is the noise lvl now?

, I have had mine for a while..............and it has not gotten any louder as time has gone on.............but is there a drone..........yes a slight one. It seems to be at 30-50% throttle (light-med acceleration) from about 1500-2000 RPM. The good news is that cruising, or on the freeway (even in that range) it is very quiet. Not stock but why would you pay for a new exhaust to sound like the stock one? The bad news, if you want to call it that, is you will hear this drone as you accelerate from a stop light because the truck (at least my V8) shifts the engine to hold it right in that range. When I get on it harder, the tranny holds the engine above 2,000 RPM and the exhaust is quieter. Of course the exhaust is quieter at full throttle than my K&N FIPK.

Having had many an exhaust on many a car I would say this one is about as good as you get for a performance exhaust that is quiet. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. They will all drone in around the same RPM/Throttle %/Load (all three matter) range unless they ad resonators etc. I have noticed that I did pick up a little MPG (hand calculated about 1.5mpg). Remember too, my V8 lives on 93 octane here in sunny Florida.

they both sucked on my V6 4runner

they sound like some old whimpy truck, first i got the gibson, then changed the muffler for the magnaflow and sound the same too whimpy.. it only sounded ok when i punch floor the gas pedal
so if anyone wants them let me know they are both sitting in my garage... isnt there a exhaust tip that will give better sound? also would like to make it exit out the side, tired of not being able to open my back window cause the fumes come right inside the truck..

Why does everyone complain about drone....you bought an exhaust so that it's louder and you can hear it, yet you want it to be quiet. If you don't like the drone then you should stick to stock.

Personally, I wish my Spintech had a drone. :D

for me i didnt have a drone they just sounded weak and stupid to me...
kinda embarassing actually... anyone have either of these on a V6? maybe thats the difference

The magnaflow does exit via the side. Doesn't it?
