Expedition One Rear Bumper

I have the front of my T4R the way I want it, but the rear still needs a little upgrading.

Beautifully done - now I have bumper envy.

Question though, can you remove the swing out arms "easily" when you are using the T4R in a daily driver situation? I have been looking at this bumper, but after I installed cabinets in my garage, my T4R would not fit with the spare coming off the bumper.

Wouldn't be hard at all. The arms are held on with a giant nut that I used a 1-1/2 Socket to tighten. Just lift and its off. You would have to re-install the bearings and seals each time, which isn't hard, they aren't press fitted. They snug up when you tighten the nut.

Good looking rig, I started with the rear, working my way to the front. Next up. Winch.

In regards to the compatibility with aftermarket ladders like the gobi, it will work with our single arm bumper variant. For the dual swings, they don't quite fit with the amount of space afforded with the design of the arms. However, we do offer a ladder product specifically designed to work with the dual swing arms that is easily detachable when not needed.

We will certainly revisit the install guide to see if things can be expanded on or further refined. Thanks for the feedback on that!

DROOOOOOL. I have been eyeing the Expedition One bumper since they released. I love the latch system on these. Definitely will be going with an E1 Bumper when I can afford it. They are quite pricey once fully spec'd out.

Clearly you haven't seen the EX1 ladder. its incorporated into the driver side swing arm and looks bad ass. no need for upgraded gas struts that still feel heavy with a hitch ladder.

Don’t go pulling the swingarms off much. Not only will you need a new nylock nut every time, but it’s really not a good idea to have to redjust tje positioning every time. Pull the spare off and stuff it underneath until you need it.

I have, in fact I was looking at this bumper last year before someone I trusted told me it was a piece of garbage. I'm not bound by their opinions anymore, but I don't like the design in general, and really prefer the standoff from the tailgate that the Gobi ladder has. at this point though, I'm not worried about a bumper on my truck until I damage the stock one.

Speaking as a Gobi owner with the upgraded gas stuts, I I closed the tail gate as one would do with out the ladder, Eventually the rear window would shatter. they struts do not adequately support the extra weight.

what was your friends gripe anyway? at over 2K, it should be flawless

Thats odd to find a white steel bumper that actually looks good. IMO they have the best looking bumper out.

Just received my bumper today, going to knock out the install tomorrow. I can attest to your statements of attetion to detail by E1. The packaging for shipping alone was exemplary, blocked and braced with spray foam, palletized, the whole nine. Was hoping you had purchased and installed the camera bracket extension as well so I could see if you had an insights so I don't jack it up. Thanks again for sharing.

rear bumper update

Great product. But I do one have to say trying to run two nato can holders, and the pull pal/ hi lift mount all at the same time seems unlikely due to space on the swing arms.

Man I love this bumper, but 250 pounds is pretty dang high for my daily driver... If they released this in aluminum it would be perfect, especially considering it retains the factory tow hitch for strength. I'd be allll over that.

Eh. I'll need heavier springs either way, but I'm trying to keep the overall weight down since it's a DD. I'm thinking an aluminum version of this could shave off 100 pounds, which would make a big difference.

I've been looking at the Hefty Fab rear bumper. That thing only weighs 76 pounds with the single swing arm...

This is an older thread, but I wondered if the original poster or anyone else with an Expedition One rear bumper has some good pics that show how the OEM bumper cover is cut, and what the hatch area looks like, with the bumper on and hatch open.

The Expedition One site has some pics in their PDF instructions, but they could be better.

Just ordered my EO dual swing arm bumper. Can’t wait to get in on. Does anyone know of a good guide for measuring and cutting the rear bumper? I can’t find much other than to “follow the contours of the bumper”.

I've got the bumper and did the install myself. The trim on the rear bumper cover is pretty easy but I'd go slow. You can always do a couple of test fits and trim more if needed.
Also you're going to want some help, it's difficult to move precisely.

I've had my expedition one bumper for 1-2 years and haven't had a single issue. This year I had to rebuild the bearings and seals but I think it was my fault I didn't have enough grease in the chamber. I am still trying to figure out a solution to cover the void in the wheel well, haven't found anything that looks good yet.
