Are any of the crew of XO actually ex-military? or do they just like to pretend to sound like it?...particularly right at the departure scene in episode 1 of the Return to Mackenzie.

I want to be really clear on some things, so as to not be taken out of context:
I really appreciate what XO has done as far as making overlanding more appreciable to a wider audience.
I think it's pretty good marketing. I don't think it's great, but I say that having worked in advertising and filmmaking for 12-13+ years. As such I tend to be pretty critical as both an editor/cameraman and someone interested in overlanding as well.
I like Clay, Kurt, etc at XO. If this series gets people to out and and travel, that's awesome.

Well, the crew of XO are not high speed. Team 5 on the other hand, do incredible work, and all of those cats are fantastic at medical issues.

We went on the trail two weeks after them (we did not know they were ahead of us) so we had no where near the trail clearing they had to do, thanks to them:clap2:. Water levels were high still though. Most of the tough spots they showed in the series.
Their original attempt is what inspired us to do the trail which is what all those youtube videos/adventure forums etc by them and others are for in my mind. Don't be too hard on them for product plugs their just doing what it takes to be sponsored, which I think we all wouldn't mind free stuff.

I thought it was hilarious that last time they said two of the primary reasons they failed was their lack of chainsaws and fuel. So then they come back underfueled and forget chainsaw sharpener?

It would be neat to see these guys ship their vehicles to Africa or some tropical Asian country and tackle new adventures on foreign land. I know they already went to south america, I just want to see them in a completely new environment where overlanders are not so frequent.
Hopefully next season they could something different like that, they will just need to justify it with all the sponsors lol and they will also need to think twice about their safety at that point!

Narration = has steadily become far to frequent
Marketing = yep lots of it
Entertaining = can be since there isn't much else (thankfully) when you are sitting at desk drinking coffee on a friday moring wanting to not be at work.

If it gets intelligent qualified people to get out and travel, that's awesome.
More-so the whole side-by-side craze is going to fQ all "wilderness" travel for everyone if the large percentage of asshats don't figure out what tread lightly means. Just sayin' :madgrin:

I enjoyed this series much more than the South American one. I like to see more wheeling action and taking some risks. South American episodes were boring and I actually fast forwarded through a lot of the nonsense.
One thing that stood out to me that they need to work on their drone footage. It is not that good at all. Lots of improvement is needed in their drone footage.
Nonetheless I enjoy them regardless as I have a passion for exploring/overlanding.
Another good person to watch overlanding is Ronny Dahl over in Western Australia. His drone footage is much much better than xoverlands and he has less people helping him too.

Everybody keeps talking about their South American episodes but they've actually only gone through Central America. South America is yet to come I imagine.
