Extended Warranty? 2015 4Runner limited

I'd like the info of you don't mind. Curious what people are paying.

I have another year, but with KDSS and all the electronics, I feel like it's worth the peace of mind.

The 4runner is one of the few vehicles I have no qualms owning out of warranty.

It's reliable, tried-and-true platform, and it's 15 year old engine is so well developed and fine-tuned at this point, that I'm really not worried about something significant happening.

Do your maintenance. Chances are slim that something will break, but if it does it just gives you an opportunity to get your hands dirty and learn about your vehicle.

I was quoted by a toyota dealer here in charlottesville Virginia 5 years ,additional 60,000 miles $175.00 down, monthly payment of $130 for 24 months. I think this qoute is too high compared to quotes you guys got

That's way out of line. I have forwarded on the info to several more members this morning.

This is true, EX Warranties are not for everyone and I don't mind getting my hands dirty.

Chances are slim that something will happen, but then again there could be that one thing that does happen that costs you $2,000 out of pocket or more.

Then there's Entune...... :-)

Bought a '17 Limited this morning to replace my '04 SR5...tried to PM you gamester5, but if it didn't go through, would appreciate extended warranty info. Thanks.

I sent you an IM. I just joined the 4Runner family yesterday after being with GM forever.

Info Request

I like to know more as well. Need to know if there is any other options before considering what my dealership is offering.

Thanks.

My intake on what extended warranties are..
Coming from a Toyota Dealership; here is what I have learned and having financial managers as friends..

Extended warranties are really just to pay their techs the job to perform everything by the book.. 1 out of 20 car will most likely use the extended warranty to its advantage and the 19 of 20 will still have a driveable toyota until its very last dying breath.. The one that really makes the most money is Financial Managers because they will hound you with the best deal ever or that is what it makes it seems like.. Do you really need etching of your vin on every metal in your car? Your insurance will replace it deemed stolen for a certain period.. Tires? You have to read the fine line of where the warranty can help you.. Maintenance free until 75k? You are prepaying the service.. nothing is really major until 50k/100k/150k/200k and so on.. Ask any Toyota Tech.. Do you really need Tire rotation every 5k mile, nope.. The first 100k miles of your vehicles life is probably least amount of expense you can dish out maintaining the car.. This given you dont drive your car/truck/suv hard like tow/race/offroading 24/7..

If you really want to see if it cost you less getting an outside reputable shop catered to repair to do your maintenance versus Toyota then by all means calculate the expense.

Overall I myself have learned the only important outcome of the Financial office is GAP.. Every Bronze/Gold/Platinum is a waste of money and basically there to milk it from you.. I understand if you drive a BMW/Mercedes then its probably best you get it.. because reliability is questionable..

Good luck with decisions.

EW's are not for everyone and really just is a security blanket. If people wish to invest in a blanket that's up to them.

Yes, Toyota makes some of the most reliable vehicles on the market but there is always that chance something could go wrong and at the tune of $2,000 that could have been covered with a investment of $600 early on makes sense to some.

And if you are paying what the Financial guy comes out with as "The best deal" i'm pretty sure it still very over priced and might not be worth it. But if you can get that same coverage and plan at 1/3 or even 1/2 of what they price it when he comes out and says, "this is the best deal you'll get", then it might be a better deal and work out in the long run.

Chances are most won't need it but if something does go wrong you can feel better about that early blanket you dished out the cash for.

The decision lies within the end user and what they feel works best for them.

Cheers, Gamester

A quick side note: I gain NOTHING for passing on my info. Just piece of mind I'm helping forum members keep some cash in their pockets. :-)
