Anyone know what the deal is regarding Florida having different warranties than other states? I was told that Toyota extended factory warranties are fixed prices in Florida, and the brochure for the normal toyotacare platinum warranty excludes Florida in the fine print. I was quoted $2900 by 3 separate dealers in this state.
I live close to the GA border, so would I be ok to take it to the dealer in GA if I have a warranty issue, and I have the non-FL purchased warranty? (through the source provided in this thread)

I would ask my contact about that. This is the first I have heard of Florida as an exception. I think it may be if you "purchase" it in Florida, I could be wrong. I would just ask my contact what your best option is. That quote is SUPER high and not worth it in my opinion.

Salesman: "This 4Runner is the epitome of reliability. You could drive it FOREVER and it will never break down or leave you stranded. That's why Toyotas are more expensive than less reliable brands. You get what you pay for!"
Warranty Salesman: "Congratulations! You just bought a piece of junk that is going to have 20 $5000 repairs before you hit 100k miles! Guess what, in this model the timing chain EXPLODES randomly around 5 miles after the warranty runs out. Seriously, the engine just drops out the bottom of the car and you are on the hook for it. Also, these have about 7000 computers in them now, and every single one WILL fail, sooner than later. They just don't make Toyotas like they used to. All of the reputation for reliability is from the distant past. The new ones are junk, believe me. Now, for $3500 all of this I just said doesn't matter anymore!"

Paying for a warranty the finance guy busts out at time of sale would not be worth it, buying at a "correct" rate could very well be worth it. For some they like the security blanket of "just in case"

Oh, I totally understand paying for peace of mind. It's why I bought a 4Runner in the first place (can't really justify a Land Cruiser).
However, the process really turned me off. Like the flip of a switch they changed from how awesome the rig was, to how terrible... I was thinking to myself, "here I am, all excited about the brand new rig I can see waiting for me outside the window, and they are trying to make me feel anxious about it..."
