Extended Warranty

Just got off of the phone with Jennifer at Elite Toyota. It is not OVER the original manufacture warranty. It's a TOTAL of 3, 4, 5, 6 etc year warranty.
The factory basic warranty is 3 years/36K miles and your extended warranty starts off as low as a 3 year/50K and as high as a 10 year/125K total warranty.
What extended warranty terms are other owners going with? I feel like it's a double edge sword. Yes the higher you go, the more expensive the warranty is but that is where I feel you would need the warranty. I'm thinking about maxing out at 10 year/125K because I plan on passing this T4R onto my grandchildren. :clock:

A lot depends on how you use it. If you drive lots of miles get a shorter year length but higher mileage. If you don't drive much get the longer year package. I don't drive much so I got longer years with less total miles.
I briefly glanced over at the warranty and didn't see that each year had different mileage :llama:. 7 year/125K extended warranty for me!

Same here for me...8/100 seemed the best considering how much driving I do. I paid $1200 so it comes out to $150/year. Not bad at all.

Yes, there was a better deal from my first contact but about 6 months ago they nearly doubled the price. I searched high and low to find an equal and I got pretty close with these guys.

I bought a new '16 TEP the end of November and bought a 6yr/75k mile Toyota Platinum zero deductible for $550.
I bought my girlfriend a 2016 Avalon Touring three days later and bought the same zero deductible Platinum 6/75 warranty for $590. He said the Avalon was one step up in the price tier list, so it was $40 more.
Heck, for the Avalon, he offered any warranty on the list for $1500 off. He said if the boss went that low on the 4Runner, he was selling me something for the Avalon.
I'm curious, you tell me, how did I do compared to Elite Toyota?

P.S. - I showed the F&I guy the warranty paperwork on the 2010 Highlander I bought from them. It was a $525 6/75 from the famous dealer in Manhattan Kansas.

You did very well on that price on your '16, but my contact beat it, not by much though. Your price is excellent compared to most.

I picked up a 2017 T4R with an extended warranty on 3/13 also for a bit more. I'm thinking about canceling it altogether after reading Consumer Reports and others.
Can anyone chime in on their experiences with coverage of these kinds of warranties? This is my first new vehicle. Coming from a late 90's Jeep Cherokee Sport. The argument the finance person made was that the vehicle is great mechanically, but replacing electronics could potentially be expensive. They don't repair them -- it's a replacement job. So is the EW worth it from the electronics standpoint?
Or do you find out later on, in the fine print, that the actuaries carefully design these warranties to not cover the things most likely to go wrong?

I got a 8/100K for $1,400. You really need to price around. It's crazy that for the exact same year/mileage it can range from $1,200 all the way to $2,000. Greedy dealers man....

In addition to platinum with a $100 deductible, we got him to throw in the tire repair coverage and key replacement. I understand the keys really are expensive to replace. As far as tires go, we've had a number of repairs on other vehicles. Once you get completely new tires from a typical chain, though, they cover that under their own warranty.
So I'm not convinced any of this is worth it.
But I work in IT for a living, and it's typical for businesses to have a 3-5 year replacement cycle with computers and other technology. These new cars are so packed with electronics I half-believe the finance guy's sales pitch and want to keep the warranty. Still got 3+ weeks to think about it.

The prices can vary greatly. My person can actually be that price and they are Platinum Zero deductible, but the price you paid is not to bad.
EW are not for everyone but they can come in handy and make themselves pay off with one use.
It is piece of mind or a security blanket in some regards.
I have sent EW info to a number of folks this morning, I was gone most of last week so sorry for the delay.
