I am new to the site and I know this topic has been beaten to death based on what I have read, but I still cannot seem to make a decision. I have a 2000 4Runner Sport with 150,000 miles on it. I just bought a new koyo a1998 radiator from radiator express for $151 due to all the recommendations I read on this site.
I have read about the external transmission coolers particulary B&M 70264 or 70268. My truck is not lifted, nor do I have any intention to lift it but I take it up to the mountains almost every other weekend and have some trips planned to Moab for some mountain biking. Do I need the external tranny cooler? I like the peace of mind of eliminating the milkshake (hence the new radiator), but is overcooling in the winter something I should be concerned with? Is it necessary to install a separate temp guage for the external cooler, or is that overkill? $70 for the external cooler is fine, but I am beginning to second guess for anything else on top of that.
I am trying to prolong the longevity of the vehicle hoping to make it to at least 250k with this.
Thanks for your help!
