Factory Nav Voice Sounding Strange

I've got a stock 2006 Toyota Nav unit and no mods associated with the electrical system other than an external aftermarket Sirius radio going through the factory AUX input. This morning on the way downtown the navigation voice sounded like it was underwater (garbled). The radio sounded fine and the bluetooth phone connection was fine. Does anyone have any idea what could be messing up the voice-guided navigation? Is the DVD? Later on in the day it worked fine so I'm hesitant to run to the dealer. Thanks.

Could you have accidentally lowered the volume of the voice by accident? That is the only thing that comes to my mind.

The volume was at the normal level...luckily it has never happened again. The only thing out of the ordinary that morning was that it was extremely foggy & wet out and possibly some condensation was on the DVD *shrugs shoulders*

It is possible, but I doubt it. It could have also been a problem with your drivers side speakers (or tweeter, not sure where the sounds for the Nav comes form).

It's all generated inside the nav unit. The nav unit sends the signal to the amp, which then plays the audio through the speaker. The amp could theoretically cause it to sound garbled also.

It was probably just a software hic-cup. If it happens again and you are able, try turning the vehicle off, then back on. Hopefully just resettingpower to it fixes it. If not, you may try "rebooting" it (remove the nav disc and pull the fuses for the nav. Then reinstall the fuses, and let it power up and install the software disc).

Otherwise, if the unit isn't under warranty, it would be a pretty expensive fix. The amp would definitely be the cheapest part to replace.
