Factory Navigation...SLOOOOOOOOOOOW

i have an 08 with factory navigation. my girl has an 07 lexus with factory navigation that is 100x faster than mine. does any one else have an issue with the navigation being slow to respond? it sometimes takes a couple of minutes to respond to touch inputs. my warranty is about to expire and if this isn't normal i want to get it checked out/changed. thanks in advance

Mines the same way, that combined with way outdated maps make mine useless.

just got an email from toyota today..." Updated Navigation Maps now available at a lower price!" i guess $169 isn't too bad for a $2500 factory option.

That's much better, I was quoted over $300 last I checked. I need the update but I can buy a Garmin with lifetime map updates included for that price, still not worth it for the poor performance.

I believe your GF's Lexus has a 5th gen nav system, while your 4R has a 4th gen. I don't have any issues with mine being non-responsive to touch or handling searches, routing, etc. Recently, I've noticed twice that the nav has been "off course" in respect to the road/street i'm on. It literally looks like I'm running over people's houses.

Couple of minutes to respond to a touch? Or do you mean a couple of second? Anyway, these NAVIs will only be useful for so long (until the computer inside them eventually die). When the aftermarket units get internet connection (to a smart phone or whatever) and have weather information (doppler radar), I'm ripping mine out!

Shouldn't be like that at all, mine isn't.

You can try and reset the system by disconnecting the positive terminal for 5 minutes or so. This will hard reboot the computer and reload the disc info into the system.

Must have missed that part about a few minutes. Mine is slow, but nothing like that. Definitely something wrong imo.

Mine is not that slow either. But I have to suggest cleaning the disk. Whenever my dvd player at home or CD player in the car starts responding very slowly I start by checking the disk. There have been times when the actual disk has a smudge or dirt on it so the system has a hard time reading it.

So pull out the disk, clean it and try it again. If it still takes minutes to respond then take it in to the dealer and get it fixed.

Oh no, something is wrong. Like others have posted, take the DVD disk out, unplug the positive battery terminal, wait 5 min (at least), plug back in and insert disc. That should reboot everything. If not, take your 4Runner and drive through the showroom window asking where service is.......... (hahhahaah, JK)

Yeah, I also got the notice for the lower priced new nav disc, but not interested. Wife and I use TomTom GPS adapter for my iPod Touch. Like other portable nav systems, the passenger can use it to check points of interest or change destination w/o having to slow down to under 4 mph or stop as with factory nav system.

The only value of the factory system is the backup camera when hooking up the boat.

well, now the damn thing is stuck in a different search area and won't change. i pulled the disc out, first time ever, and it's trashed. working with the dealers to get it replaced without having to buy a new one. this should be interesting. if they balk too bad, i'll just have them pull the unit because it damaged the disc
