factory skid plate rotting

Hello

my wifef has a 2005 toyota 4 runner and we live in Maine, as you can guess rust is an issue here. They front skid plate is rusting out, Is there an aftermaket one availiable or any ideas where to find a rust free front skid plate and costs?:redbrick:

You could check a salvage yard. I'm sure there are plenty of 4th gens around if you can find one with less-rusted skids.

It's likely that it's mostly surface rust though, in which case you could strip your existing skids down and repaint. I have an '05 and also live in the northeast. Although my skid plates look like crap, they're not really rusting through. Just on the surface (except where the rocks have mangled them lol).

If you really want to go all-out, you could look into aftermarket skids like the ones from BudBuilt. Not sure on cost, but they probably run a couple of hundred dollars. Upside is they could survive a nuclear holocaust!

It isn't needed if you don't do any off-roading.

I'm amazed it's rusting out....I live in NH...and mine doesn't have one bit of rust on it.

Take a look at Man-A-Fre skids. They are tough and pretty reasonably priced.

My was beat from the trails so I replaced it with BudBuilt also. Great product and worth the $ IMO. If you don't off road then just take it off .

Thanks for the info

I did sand blast it and repaint it this summer. It has some rot holes in it, the rest of the trucks is in great shape Im sure previous owners never rinsed it, I will check out the aftermarkets ones. thanks

There are always a few for sale when other 4r owners are swapping out OEM ones for aftermarkets ones. Check the site's classifieds.
