Factory XM Radio Question

A question for all you prognosticators, sooth-sayers and fortune tellers...I understand Toyota will be adding XM radio as a factory option in 2006. My question is does anyone guess/believe/think/know if the "factory" XM radio could be added to a 2005? I'm not interested in aftermarket XM additions now that it will soon be an factory option. I have terrible luck with thieves and cars so "looking stock" is important to me.

I was so excited about the new 2005...now it looks like I'll being waiting another year.

If I'm not mistaken, the news release did not say that the 4Runner was going to be included on the list of vehilces getting XM or Sirius. You may be waiting longer than 2006, but someone else might be able to clarify...

A few people have posted their mods to incorporate XM or Sirius in fairly hidden places or with removable units - its worth taking a look at those as well. You might find the factory unit is actually more on display and hence a bigger target than something that was for instance hidden in the burger tray in the front arm rest console... (I think somebody managed to do that)

If you add Sat. radio to an existing radio, it will tied in by the use of a FM modulator. It will NOT have the same quality sound as a Sat. ready head unit. The cost of a newer Toyota head unit would cost silly money. Your best bang for the buck would be to get a aftermarket sat. ready head unit, which would be better then a Toyota unit anyway. Do it now, no need to wait. There are many aftermarket units that look stock, just look around.

You could check out the possibility of using a Solara Nav radio. It is satalite ready. Not a cheap solution, but very "factory". If you want better sound, get an aftermarket HU and amp.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I should have clarified that I will have the factory navigation unit in the truck. I found a product on another thread from Vais Technology. They are currently developing a product that will allow one to control an iPod and satellite radio through the OEM navigation unit. This is exactly what I am looking for!
