Well, it’s still not done. We’ve had some cold and rainy weather here lately so the paint is taking forever to dry. The brackets have been moved inside to see if the lesser humidity will help with it drying. Big shout out to Ducmonsta for answering my questions I had about this! Thanks man!!
Here are a few pictures:
I picked up a few pieces of 2” square tube steel with a wall thickness of 1/8” and a piece of flat steel about 2” x 15” x 1/8” at a local mom and pop style steel yard right down the street. I cut down the square tube to 4” and cleaned them up and grinded down the rust off of them. Next I cut down the flat steel strip into two 6” sections and deburred the edges with a file. I needed to make a bend in the metal but without a press or anything else it wasn’t just going to bend easily. I decided to try out a whiskey bend (which I have never done, and found out about on ExPo a few weeks ago). I eyeballed a few measurements and figured out where I wanted my bend. I marked the line and cut into it with the cutting wheel on my grinder. I cut about half way through it and them clamped it into the vise and bent it to as close to 90 degrees as I could eyeball.
Next up was to clean the rust off the bent steel and weld the pieces to the square tube. I found some scrap pieces of wood lying around that spaced out the pieces of steel perfectly for me to weld. I made a few practice passes on some scrap metal and was good to go.
Here’s the first weld. Notice the weld placed where the cut in the metal was made to give strength back to it. Also, you can see where I had to patch up a hole on the left side where it got a little too hot, but the weld beads have come some distance since the body mount chop.
Finished and ready for paint
I sprayed two coats of primer and am following it up with Rustoleum Undercoat because it has a rubberized finish to it. I thought that would kind of act like a gasket between the bracket and the awning.
Now I’m just waiting on the paint to finish drying up and I will post finished pictures here as soon as I can.

One quick cell phone picture of the awning mounted up. I haven't got to set it up yet because one of the twist to tighten legs were broken when I started to set it up. I've gotta get ahold of Sierra Expeditions sometime this week to see if they can help me out.

Thanks man! I haven't gotten around to doing much with it lately other then drive it. I've got a few things in the works and under wraps, but finishing it up will all depend on this new job I'm trying to get.

Things have been pretty slow with the build here lately. I've got a few things in the works/drawing board right now. I'm just not completely sure which way I want to go first. I've got a SoCal bracket, Cobra 75 and whip, but I'm also looking into suspension. I'm thinking suspension will replace the spacers before the end of the summer but things could change from now and then.
My reason for this update is I haven't had time to get offroad here lately, and so I was clowning around in the yard today. The runner was stretching it's legs and I ran into a new rub that I haven't heard from. I feel like this might just be a UCA fix when I replace them, but I wanted to get everyone's insight. It's not a body mount rub and I have plenty of room from the BM. This is rubbing on the fender flare and on the inside of the wheel well.
And just one more poser shot for the day.

Still not a lot going on here. I did the rear diff breather extension a few weekends ago, and I also recently made some oh sh!t handles for the seat backs after some inspiration from Eddiebx.
I have been getting to get out and riding a good bit here lately. We've gotten a pretty good group of local 4runner enthusiasts together and it makes getting out easier when you have people to go with. This truck just continues to amaze me at how capable it is.

Got around to finally finishing off my CB setup. Thanks to [MENTION=55815]Okki[/MENTION] for the help that he gave me around a year or two ago. It's finally finished.
Just in time for our Memorial Day weekend of camping and wheeling. Thanks to everyone who came out and thanks to those who took pictures!!

Child Safety Lock Stuck
Well this happened on Cinco De Mayo. I was standing out by my truck waiting on some people to hurry up and I flipped the lock into the locked position just messing around. Unfortunately, the lock got stuck in the locked position and would not budge. Fast forward to two days ago, I was looking at it again (I hadn't had time to get it fixed) I locked the driver side to see if it would do the same thing. Anddddd it did. So I got to looking around online for a fix.
Here was the solution. This video was exact to our trucks.

To get the door lock out. You will need a T-30 Torx bit.
Here is the lock assembly removed from the door.
There's a little flap on the front side, Open that up and you will see this.
Where the cable connects, just wiggle it around a bit, and it freed mine up. Close the flap up, and put it all back together.

Mine has been stuck on the passenger side rear door for about a year. I'm gonna fix it today!

OK- So I just fixed mine and in the process discovered that there is a MUCH easier way to fix this. Not to overshadow your writeup, because I couldn't have figured it out without it...
Take the door panel off and unhook the cables for the handle release and the lock mechanism. The lock cable has a green plastic end. Simply push the lock cable all the way into the sleeve and the child lock will unjam itself. Make sure the child lock is OFF (now that it moves freely) and put everything back together.
No need to take the entire lock assembly out- although I'm a complete expert at it now unfortunately!
It seems that if the child lock is "on" when you hook the cables back up it allows the cable to pull out farther than it's designed to and it jams the mechanism. This explains why my driver side rear door fixed itself magically when I took it apart last time, but the passenger side was still stuck.
Hope this helps somebody- I'm really glad it's fixed!!

I wouldn't have thought to just wiggle around the cable. Good thing it didn't take much more than 30 minutes to do both sides now that I've gotten so good at taking the door panels off and on.
