Trees need food too, why are you against making tree food?
I commute 80 miles per day. That's probably around 30,000+L of CO2 per day from my 3.4L V6, maybe even 40k! A tree eats about 13lbs of CO2 per year, so every mile I drive, I am making a month's worth of food for a tree, that's 80 trees per day!
Booyah. I'm an environmentalist. You may hug trees, but I feed 'em.
Soooooo, what's the point here? Everyone here knows the fuel efficiency of a 4runner. Converting your life savings to pennies won't make you any richer, and converting your fuel consumption to liters of gas per mile doesn't change anything either. Stats or facts without context are meaningless.
And it's not "time we start looking away from fossil fuels". That time was decades ago, and we have been actively developing alternatives since the 1800's; we just can't achieve the energy densities necessary to replace petroleum fuel. Nothing can replace fossil fuels right now, and hasn't been able to since the first man burned animal fat to keep himself warm. Fossil fuels have allowed us to live everywhere more easily which has freed man up to create art, science, medicine, and done it at a time when we were HUNDREDS of years away from any other effective method for storing, recovering, and transporting energy.
And we are currently pursuing alternative fuel sources very actively. We have more electric/hybrid cars out there than ever before, and they're actually competitive. There's an all-electric car company that might actually survive to make a profit, we are actually looking at implementing alternative infrastructure for power distribution to vehicles in limited markets... I'd say we admitted it long ago.
Aaaaaaaaaaanywho... We should see who pollutes the most in a day. Post your numbers people. Who is feeding the most trees!
