My 1st gen failed emissions today. I need to get it plated, and was hoping someone would have better insight to my problem than the people i already asked. Here it is:
My 87 22RE 4runner failed emissions on hydrocarbons. However it ONLY failed on the idle test - 2500rpm test passed comfortably. Here are the numbers off the top of my head.
max ppm for both tests: 220. What i got: 340 @ idle, 180 @ 2500rpm.
I got varied and inconclusive information from those i asked. I have new spark plugs, and the current wires appear in good condition. Fresh oil about 1000 miles ago. I usually put 87 octane in.
Can anyone give me insight into what they believe would help me pass, or what my problem is? One person told me its prob the cat. Before i go shell out for a cat, i'd like to see if that's not the true problem.
