My BFG's aren't bald by any means, but at a little less than half tread, I'm feeling its time for some new tires. The All terrains have been good tires to me in everything other than snow, but the price well the price sucks.

I found a place to get the wild peaks for $500 carry out for the 265/75/17's I need. I've been happy with most of the Falken products I've tried on other vehicles, but the 2 ply side wall scares me a bit. They do have a 50k mile warranty, but I can just imagine what happens when you take them in chunked out from rocks etc.

Anyway ... anyone running these? have anything good or bad to say?

I am planning on getting the Rocky Mountain ATSs here shortly. They are basically the same tire. My dad got them for his Jeep a while back and we've gotten them for the work trucks. They have loved them so far, and haven't had any problems to speak of. They've just been through snow and rain, no trails though. At about half the price of BFGs and Goodyears, plus that warranty, I figured they worth a shot.
 
What about any towing? Its looking very much like we are going to be moving in the near future, so the 4runner gets to tow at least two cars, a house full of furniture, and several tons of tools and car parts. I know with the Supra on the trailer, the 3ply BFG's were a bit ballooned (should have had the E load range for that weight). I know the Wild Peak/Rocky Mountains are offered in higher load range, but then the price jumps up to BFG money.
 
We have them (285s) on an F350 that carries a giant salt hopper and a water tank throughout the year without any problems. It occasionally has a trailer behind it. My dad hauls their boat behind his Jeep (285s) all summer and has never had any problems. The Rocky Mountains I'm looking at are Es and are only $146 each for LT265/76/16s...where did you find them for $500?

I have the Rocky Mountains (285's) and pull my 18' bass boat every where with no problems. Towed the boat 600 miles one way back in July and had no problems. I paid $143 each at Discount Tire..
 
its the 17" wheel price that jumps the price up to $179 a pop through discount. I stopped in today to see if they could do any better like they promised one I picked up my last set for my Scion.

As far as where my $500 price quote came from, its the shop my g/f gets hers through ... commuting 100 miles a day to and from work means shes a good customer. I will see how open they are to selling to everyone at that price, and if its okay, I'll release the info tomorrow.
 
I had them on my 2010 Trail Edition for about a month before I sold it. Took it off road out in the desert and they handled everything fine. One thing I did notice was they seemed stiffer on that terrain vs. the BFG All Terrains I had previously. I was gonna try lowering the PSI the next time I went out but there wasn't a next time. They were still new so perhaps they just hadn't broken in yet. They were 285/70R17 Load D.

I had them for a few months on my runner in 265/75/16 load e. my tire guy messed up and priced me the p-metric load rated tires and the e loads showed up so he gave me the same price (score!!!). anyway they were decent in soft sand, pretty dang good in the mud for an AT tire, and were quiet on the road. my only complaint is they hydroplaned pretty bad on ponded water on the road. I got a deal on some 285s is the only reason I'm not still running them. for my use, the Yokohama geolandar at-s is my favorite tire, my truck is a DD with most offroad use being in a dry sandy riverbed, and the yokohamas float on sand better than the falkens did. check out some jeep forums a ton of those guys crawl and wheel jeeps on the falkens.
 
I'm probably going to try them, sidewall construction is still what scares me ...

you can see where the BFG sidewalls have been rubbed quite a bit and that was in a pretty short distance that day. A cheaper tire is great, but not if it doesn't have the traction or strength to get me home.
 
Man I've seen pics of a jeep with them aired WAY down on beadlocks with 37s and that tire is peeled way over on to the sidewall crawling up some slick rock at Moab and the guy said he never had an issue. I never tested them on the rocks personally I'm mostly a sand guy.
 
I hear ya. I read over some of the Jeep forums last night that Sooner suggested. It seems like they run these pretty hard and do pretty well with them. I know I will be getting them here soon just from firsthand experience with them. We have more mud type trails than rocky trails here in Indiana, so I should be good with the sidewalls.
 
Stick- I just put a set on my truck a week ago. Mainly for budget reasons they were one of two tires available to me. I am headed up to Big Bear this weekend. Friday I will be running Rattlesnake canyon and Heart Break and not sure of trails Saturday for the wounded warrior event. I will do a review of their performance in the rain, rocks and snow since I am sure to encounter all three.
 
i entertained running a set in 315/75r16 because they are the cheapest 35's . I thought some 35 at's would be kind of different, But i change my mind and am probably going to try and get swampers.

maybe we can give reviews at the same time ... I just pulled the trigger on a set. I probably can't spend a full weekend for the planned event, but I may have to go at least try these things out.

For those that asked the $500 price was the P-metric which is a pretty different tire (2 ply sidewall and less tread depth).

I did get the LT (E load range) for $640 out the door. I'll have my favorite guys in the tire shack down the road do the mount and balance. For those that want to know I actually got the guys at Americas Tire/ discount tire (cherry and foothill in fontana location specifically) to match that price for me. If you have a problem getting the same price anywhere, let me know and I'll scan my invoice.


They only had 3 in stock, so I'll probably have to post some pics thurday or friday.

If your not in a hurry talk to the guys at Falken ... I remember a while back they offered to let me actually try them if I came out to one of their events. They were going to have loaner sets to try out on the trails if it was a Falken sponsored event. At the time my ball joints kept me from wanting to go abuse the truck too much, so I opted out. They may do the same deal again in the future.
 
$640 isn't too bad. I called up and they're giving me the whole deal (LT E load) mount, balance, stems, and everything for $700 even. I'm going to try and get them this weekend, but have a big football game to go to...the Monon Bell, look it up...let us know what you think about them. Go Wabash!
 
Yeah i got 285/75/16 Load Range D for $161 each and out the door for $790. They have a 30 day like them or leave them. Within the forst 30 days you can return them for a full refund. As long as you bought from an authroized Falken dealer.
 
I was happy with the deal, This will probably sound really lame, but I know I'll miss the aggressive look that a new set of BFG's always had. lol
 
You will actually be surprised how aggressive they look in our sizes. It is a different type of aggressive but still a good looking tire. Give me a call and let me know what day you can make it this weekend. I already wheeling Friday and Saturday but if I dont break or go through all my spares I might be able to wheel Sunday too.
