BFG KO2 or Falken Wild Peak AT3W

I've ran both K02's and AT3/W's. Currently running AT3/W's on my Runner and had them on my previous 5th Gen as well. Can't go wrong with either tire - K02's have been the gold standard for A/T tires for the longest time and the AT3/W's are a relative newcomer. From my experience the K02's hum slightly louder and seem to kick up small rocks, debris more so than the AT3/W's. For snow and wet traction, I'd give the edge to the Falkens. Been through some severe snow storms with the AT3/W's and they performed flawlessly. Drove from Seattle to Whistler BC in the middle of a blizzard Jan 2020, HWY 99 to Whistler was basically an ice field, and the Falkens handled that trip with ease. No chains, just had it in 4-HI, slow and steady.

Keeping the thread alive,

I say KO2’s all the way. That being said I’m running a pair of Wild Peaks now cause I got a good deal on them.

Ko2’s are awesome in the sand and the snow

I said KO2s for my last 2 sets. Needless to say they well be the last. 22k miles and there are as loud as rough as hell. Tread is uneven. I have them rotated, balanced and my alignment checked every 5-6k miles. I think I got the duds.

I purchased a set of Falken Wild Peak AT3W after my post here on August 1, 2022

So we now have 8 months experience and 5,500 miles riding on the Falken AT3Ws.
They are a softer, quieter ride than the Goodyear Duratracs with 30,000 miles of wear. Also, the wet weather traction is better. Absolutely no doubt about that, so the Falkens work better for my uses, weather, and road conditions in central Texas.

If I were to move back to primarily mountainous terrain (snowy & rocks), then I'd probably shift back to the Duratracs or buy the BFG KO2 tires.

We try to use the tool that best fits the job.

I ran Ko's and KO2's for about 650,000 miles on a 1-st gen 4runner, a 4th Gen, and now a 5th gen. All had minor lifts and a bump up from stock sizes. Offroad a lot for fun and work (geologist).

The only issue I ever had with the KO2 is lack of any good wet traction on pavement. I frequently had the traction control going crazy when taking a tight turn in the wet, especially from a stop. My son got fed up with the lack of wet traction and recommended me to try the Wildpeaks AT/3.

So my initial review after about 10,000 miles with the Wildpeak vs the KO2 - no contest - so far the Wildpeak is far superior on wet roads. Dry roads - no difference so far. Offroad - no difference so far. Durability (the no.1 plus for the KO2) is out for judgement. But, My son has them on 2 3rd gens and at least 100k miles with no failures. And he's really hard on tires.

I can honestly say that I really like the AT/3 - especially in the rain. BTW - I'm running 255/80-17 (tall - skinny)

I agree with this except for the wear. I am currently running 285/70-17 SL Wildpeaks AT3W’s and they are great all around, expect the wear isn’t as good as the KO2’s I had. I will go back to the Wildpeaks again though. The wear on the E load Wildpeaks are probably much better.
