My coworker took me for a ride in his 2011 trail teams fj cruiser, I mean I really dont like the idea of a car payment but those things are *****in. I could afford the payment, but I just found out theres guys making 400whp after a phonecall to URD and I can have a 6 speed manual transmission! I'm sold.

The 6-speed is known to be a pretty bad transmission by Toyota truck standards.

I think if you like it more, then do it. I compared the two for a while and went back and forth. I'm glad I stuck it out and found a good 3rd gen. The FJ's I think look great (especially when built) and the engine with a 6-speed manual is a great combo, but theres sh*t for cargo and passenger space. I just didn't feel like there were enough benefits to the slightly larger dimensions to make it worth it.

Man I hate FJ's the interior is horrible and you can't see anything through the stupid squatty windshield. If you like the motor and tranny buy a Tacoma. But to each their own. Toyota will gladly take your money.

Totally agree! I'd take my 4Runner over my wife's FJ any day of the week. (Just don't tell her that)

Agreed. I won't ever go back to a car payment. Obviously do what you want, but the thought of having one again makes my stomach turn.

Get an FJ40. It has the same lack of cargo space and you can't see anything but it's actually boss and not just pretending :bounce:

I know not many people are big fans of the modern FJs, as I'm one of them; but I can see them getting popular after they get pulled from Toyota's lineup.

Granted, give it a decade but people will want them again.

I had a FJ for three years and loved it! Ended up rolling it on a trail and then came to the hard realization that I had $40k - $45k (I stopped keep track of $$ spent) in a toy that I usually only drove on the weekends. Compounded with that my daily driver was worth about $1500 it seemed like a good idea to have a toy that was worth less than my daily driver. So after a year of waiting for my wife to settle down after rolling the FJ, I bought my 4Runner and bought another daily driver.
I really miss my FJ though. I like the quirky windshield, and the everything else that is quirky about it. It was so much fun to drive and look through the windshield. Felt like every time I drove it I was going on an adventure even if I ended up in my work parking lot.
As to the 6 speed. Mine was a 6 speed and I really liked it. They do have a known issue with the throw-out bearing. If you get it in too deep of water or run through too much mud the throw out bearing with start chirping. Not a big deal but it was a little embarrassing in the Starbuck's drive through. I was able to get Toyota to replace the throw out bearing under warranty. I know others who have put up with it and it eventually went away. I also heard of some people replacing the bearing with a sealed unit and they claimed it sealed bearing didn't chirp.
I will say having a car payment sucks and it is something I have vowed long ago never to do again, but screw it you're young.

If I didn't have my Harley payment id be all over a FJ. I really like my 00' Limited 4R and it is paid off. I have been on the fence of selling my 00 for about a year now. Its just nice having something more updated... and much more powerful for the same mileage. A supercharged Trail Team FJ would be a monster I would put in the stable anyday
