False advertising on ground clearance

Toyota list the ground clearance of a 2014 4runner at 9". On level ground in my garage mine measures 8 3/16" under the front skid plate. Toyota must measure it with zero gas and oil. By the time you add several passengers or any thing else it is even less. Also when you hit a bump and the suspension compresses it is much less also. Time for a lift.

The number of inaccuracies in the 4Runner Product Information sheets is surprising. Even in the 2015 specs, the Limited 20" wheel is still listed at 7.5X20, rather than the correct 7X20.

It's interesting that the Ground Clearance of 9.6" for the LE is over-stated, while the Overall Height of 70.1"/71.5" for the LE is under-stated.

Technically, I think he's complaining about 5/16 of an inch, since rounding up after 8.5 inches is probably fair advertising. Is it maybe those goofy huge wheels and small tires on the limited that is causing this???

Could be, as would any other manufacturer. My guess is they probably also do the measurement on a completely base SR5 - ie. no weight of nav, XREAS, etc.

Please explain how the lowest part of your drivetrain gets lower when your suspension compresses.

Thats the way IFS works. When it is bounding up and over something, the weight of the truck compresses the suspension and the ground clearance decreases.
