Fast Blinker Mystery Solved

Last week I was on the beltway around DC when I noticed my left blinker was flashing rapidly when activated. I assumed I had a bulb burnt out. After stopping for dinner, I noticed it was working at the proper speed! I thought hmmmm. For the last week it has been working. Even visually checked to make sure all was well. Last night I got a case of the "fast blinker" again. While activated, I pulled over and had my wife step out and check and the left front 1156A bulb was burnt out. Replaced it and all is well. Apparently the filament inside the bulb would sporadically make contact (a bump or jolt) even though it was burnt in two pieces. Hope this helps someone else. Took about five minutes to change it out.

On a serious note, I had the same thing happen to me. Left turn signal would intermittently fast blink, but not all the time. I pulled into a 7-11 one day and noticed in the window reflection that my left DRL was out. Got home and pulled the bulb, but it was working. Swapped bulb to the right side and it worked for a couple of weeks before I started getting intermittent fast blink on the right side. Replaced the bulb and all is good.

Appears the Toyota OEM bulbs put up a valiant fight before dying.

I know an original owner of a 1966 Mustang. He still has one original headlight. I know it's original because the car has never been out of his hands and the center does not say GE it says FORD.
 
Come on guys, give him some credit, he did note the exact bulb type. This was just the cliff notes version of what happened :)

He could have just said my blinker bulb burnt out.

I think it's even worse. He's been sandbaggin' us. This "issue" is just a setup for a future mod. I suspect we're going to see some form of over-engineered HID headlight mod justification based on power surges that are causing premature signal light failure :behindsofa:

I could but nobody could afford it lol. As I said before electrical devices are not my forte. Just thought that maybe when someone gets a fast blinker they will dimly remember this post and THEN come here, start a new thread titled "Fast Blinker- WTF?"

When I whacked my front bumper last year, the same thing happened to me. The bulb LOOKED ok, but was intermittently failing and giving me the fast blinker and then reverting back to normal. It eventually burned out.

Thanks to this thread I figured out my mystery. Left turn signal intermittently was not working the past week. Right one is now out!
