BTW, Lion's Back is permanently closed. A guide I spoke with on Hell's said that private interests bought the land at the base by the road, and they don't want any liability for accidents. Baby Lion's was open, up the road from Hell's.

After looking at the Go Pro models, I concluded that the camera was not excellent, the plastic housing distorted some images, it was sketchy for underwater work, and the primary useful part was the mount.

I already have a decent point and shoot (Canon G-9), and I was interested in an in-the-car-only application, so I started looking for mounts. This one is AWESOME. :jaw drop:

This appears in the vids thread, too. Just trying to organize everything into one place.

I use my hazards quite a bit -- in bad visibility weather, if I have to slow down fast on the freeway, when I go by accidents on the side of the road, etc. I've even used these to back off a tailgater or two.

The new LED types are very bright, and the flasher patterns get people's attention.

Here ya go. It's a saga.

Feniex makes license plate brackets. I bought 2 but didn't go with them.

For the front, I wanted a more permanent mount. It was trial and error. The lights have thin plastic frames. I used black, hex, cap nuts through the stock grill (the heads of which promptly rusted). But tightening them caused the grill ribs to dig into, and deform, the plastic frames. So, I bought some 1" wide, 1/8th" thick aluminum stock, which matched the heighth of the light, and cut backer tabs. After cutting it to length, I ground the corners, then drilled holes for the fasteners and wires. On the back of the grill, I had to use large zinc fender washers to span the grill holes, but they were ugly from the front, so I got some 1/16", rubber, plumbers gasket, and cut circular pads just larger than the washers to cover them up. Used locking nuts on the back side.

In the rear, wanted to use the license plate bracket, but that would mean routing the wires through the hatch handle assembly, throught the hatch, up to the body, down the body, and through the cab to the front. I opted for an outside wiring location. Drilled through the plastic bumper flange, and used Feniex 90 degree mounting brackets. I used 1/4" black rubber plumbers gasket as spacers to get the bracket down far enough to clear the actual plastic bumper (see the last photo). The lights "aim" a little up and a little out, but they have good projection so it's not so bad. I'll probably knock them off the first bad departure angle I take, but whatever.

I bought a single pole, dual throw switch, and was going to use an "on-off-hazard" configuration, but Toyota uses a switched ground for a lot of their circuits (mine is switched hot), and I didn't want to pull apart the center console to get at the factory hazard switch, so I wired it "off-off-on", directly to the battery. That way, I can use it with or without the factory hazards, and even if the key is absent.

I got the TRD CAI to make up for all the steel I added. It's not too loud and should pay for itself in unpurchased paper filters. (I know, bad photo)

I REALLY like Defiant's short tube light bar. If I ever go with forward auxiliary lights, they'll be mounted thereon.

That said, I REALLY like the stock look of my T4R TE, and I had very good experience with PIAA so:
