Basketcase mounting description and pics

Show us more on how you mounted that basket. Specifically the rail mounts.

The included mounting hardware comes with 4 plastic rail clamps. I cut 2 of them up and ground the rectangular blocks with the carraige bolt holes, so I could use them inside the factory rails. I purchased longer carraige bolts, spacers, and washers. Finally, I ground down the long sides of the plastic wing nuts, to clear the basket.

The factory rails are not parallel, so the front took more spacers.

Road Trip

Just got back from 18 days vacation on the road -- 25th wedding anniversary trip. Snaps to follow.

Day 1

Boulder to Redstone.

Over Loveland Pass, back to I-70, out to Leadville, over Independence Pass, up the slopes at Aspen Mountain, down and out to Maroon Bells, and on to Redstone.

Looks awesome! I have been to that exact location once. I want so bad to get out west and hit all these trails. Maybe next summer...

Day 2

Redstone to Ouray.

Backroads to Crested Butte, then to Blue Mesa Lake, then south on dirt roads to Cimarron Ridges, Courthouse Mtn, and over Owl Creek Pass.

Day 3

Ouray to Telluride

Over old Red Mountain Pass, over Ophir Pass, into Telluride, up Imogene Pass, and back down to Telluride.

Day 4

Telluride to Moab

Through the La Sal range. Some of the largest aspen trees I've seen.

Day 5

Arches National Park

Breathtaking stuff.

The buses full of Japanese and German and French tourists were amusing.

It's a short but steep hike to Delicate Arch, especially in hot weather.

Day 6

Moab

We did the Gemini Bridges, Long Canyon, Potash trail, Shafer Canyon, Grand View Point trip again.

This time, we added enough of the White Rim trail to get us to Musselman Arch.

Long Canyon is one of my favorite 4WD routes. This is the view from the top.

Awesome pic's, thanks for sharing. Actually headed up that way next week to do a little scouting before our elk hunting trip in September. We'll be hiking in on the Capitol Creek Trail Head outside Snowmass Village, stay a night in the wild and then head back to Texas after that. We'll be staying almost a full week in September...

How are these trails in January?

I finally get to use that "rack" smiley... :naughty:

I did a HUGE amount of "shopping" for racks. I visited Paul down at Gobi, and would highly recommend him and his products. I like the short Bajarack, too, because it resembles the factory rails, but has nice bottom support.

I do have to cart around fuel once in a while for my snow thrower, and I learned my lesson about transporting fuel in the passenger compartment the hard way -- miserable gas smell. Lucky I didn't blow myself up. (Saw the FJ acetylene post)

So, the solution that's right for me...

Do you have more info on that roof rack? That is exactly what I need. I hate carrying jerry cans in the trunk and I park in underground lots, so I can't add a real roof rack. I really like how it is sunken into the racks.

How are these trails in January?

Honestly, I'm not sure. Probably OK, depending on precip. Many of the Moab trails are impassible when wet, but they just don't get that much precip. March and April are the most temperate times to go.

Day 7

Moab to Page

We did Dellenbaugh Tunnel and Secret Spire before heading to Page, AZ.

On the way to Page, we went to Natural Bridges National Monument. It was OK, but the road due south (261) opens up at the end of a giant mesa to this incredible view of the eastern edge of Monument Valley.
