Days 8 & 9

Page, AZ

Hiked private slot canyons west of Page and public ones northwest of Page near Paria.

Drove on Lone Rock Beach. Seriously deep sand.

Awesome...thanks for sharing.

Kinda wish I took off my running boards 30 min after getting home. Kids use em...wife uses them and I get that glare when I mention taking them off. Maybe once the 7yr old can hop in and out with out them.

Day 12

Bryce Canyon NP

Puddles!

Wow. Bryce is as breathtaking as the Grand Canyon or Arches or Canyonlands, but uniquely so. (pic 1)

We took Cottonwood Canyon Rd to get there. It's off route 89, between Page and Kanab. (pic 2)

Days 13 -15

Dinosaur National Monument - Steamboat

Came upon a grass fire west of Craig. It went from 2 to 200 acres in minutes.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/tSy_L3gu1XQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The Yampa and Green rivers converge in Dinosaur NM. After hiking up to a nice overlook, we drove down to the river near Steamboat Rock. I'm not an enthusiastic camper, but I would love to spend a night or two down there.

Days 16 - 17

Winter Park - Corona/Rollins Pass

Living in Boulder, we go up to the east side of Rollins pass annually. The Eye of the Needle tunnel has been closed for a long time, so it's a "dead" pass. I hadn't been up the west side out of Winter Park since 1984, at which time I drove my CJ-7 through the tunnel.

Crested Butte aspen

Spent the weekend in Aspen, CO. Drove CR 12 from Paonia Res (which is empty) to Crested Butte. A little cloudy, but scenic.

I want to visit the northeast USA next fall. I hear the colors are spectacular.

Northeast huh? I look forward to seeing shots of your Trail wheeling in Times Square.

Great build. I like the color too.

:thanks:

I can't imagine driving in Manhattan. I've got family in Brooklyn, though, maybe there's good wheelin there.

Hi FD,

I would like to follow your lead on mounting the basketcase this way. It seems like the right fit. Low profile so easier on the gas milage, but good for some extra gas, which is the only thing I will likely ever need to put up there. And I have rotopax.

I am wondering if you could give some more details, or have a picture of the DIY mounting that you did.

Thank you,
Deaner

Gorgeous truck man. I'm up in Fort Collins so we will have to go wheeling sometime. I've been wanting to hit Red Cone pass for a while and it looks like you like passes too haha!

30k Status

Hey, y' all.

Been doing much more driving that posting for a while. As the rig is about to clock 30,000 miles, I thought I'd check in. There's bad news and good.

During extreme braking on paved surfaces regardless of speed, the front ABS fails and the tires lock. IDK. Maybe it's the lift.

Sad to report that my center caps on my Mojaves froze to the wheels. I went in for a balance/rotate and they couldn't remove the caps. I had to hammer and chisel them out. Peckered up the wheels. Looks like crap.

Been through another set of PIAA headlights. Maybe the extra light makes extra heat and shortens the life. Don't think I touched the bulb surfaces during install...

Still have 1/4" on my Big O Big Foot A/Ts. They're LTE load class E. B1tch1n' shoes. Highly recommended.

Thanks to everyone for the kudos on the Basketcase mod.

Keep the shiny side up!

:D

I just read through this entire thread(big accomplishment I know) and you have some great pics and fun looking adventures. Since I live in Denver I'll be trying to copy most of your trips haha.

Do you camp out on some of the longer drives or do you hotel it? I only ask because my gf and I want to do some light(at this point my TE is mostly stock) off roading and camping but I'd prefer to do disbursed car camping rather than sharing a campground with lots of other people... really get out there in the woods. I can't seem to find a lot of info on where I can do car camping in CO without paying for a multi-site campground rather than just pulling off a dirt road and setting up a tent.
