Favorite 4runner Generation, why?

Agreed. Those 90s SUVs hardly have a blind spot. Nowadays you're surrounded by blind spots.

Combo of 2nd gen,4th ,5th ! True tailgate of 2nd do like the body too :pimp: 4th gen V8 , seats of 5th !! :sleepy::hungry:
 
I have a 99 Limited and a 16 Trail. The 99 is more fun, the 16 is definitely the better daily. I would say for me the 3rd gen juuuuust edges the 5th for my overall tastes. After that I like the 1st, 2nd, and 4th last (sorry 4th gen guys/gals).
 
I'm all about the 3rd gens. You just don't see soccer moms driving them around like you do with the newer models ;)

IMO 3rd gens have just the right amount of creature comforts that I'd want (power windows, sunroof, decent stock radio ETC) and hardly any of the stupid new drive-by-wire technologies found on newer 4Runners. (Systems that eventually fail and cripple your rig)

I also love the size and styling too.

I don't think that's the point lol. I think the point was their vehicle is their favorite. It doesn't matter what gen or anything because it's theirs.
I could be off, but it seems reasonable.

I'd say my favorite would be the 1st Gen but the 5th gen looks so good with it's sharp lines. The look has grown on me since I've had mine. Ended up stepping into a 2016 4Runner Trail with KDSS. Couldn't find a well maintained 1st generation in my area but maybe in the future I can pick on up! But for now...time to mod the crud out of this thing! Very offroad capable as with previous generations, but with some chiseled body sculpting! Build log to come shortly.

the 4runners they're using on Expidition Overland are pretty slick. They do however seem a little cramped inside is this the case?

I have owned a 2nd, two 3rd's, a 4th, and now a 5th. The 3rd gens are the coolest though. I keep going back and forth about getting a 1st gen or another 3rd to restore and keep as my weekend toy.
 
1st gen. Love my 84. She's a bit slow with the old 3Y but I'm undecided as yet about what donk will replace it. Either a diesel variant of the same gen to keep it original, or transplant a 3.8 v6 buick that are found in every 3rd shed over here in aus. Local guys have bellhousing adapter kits already made and on the shelf so... pretty tempting but I like keeping things original.. might just need a bigger shed for more projects

This is as far as I could get with the time I have. Had 2 87's and while certainly not a powerhouse, lock it in 4 low and it would go just about anywhere. Both of mine were in pretty much mint condition until they met their demise. Last one had a brand new crate motor, Rancho shocks, all new other suspension related parts, Michelin LTX MS tires and then got totaled. My 95 limited is in near perfect shape and very sound but wish I could have found another 1st as I drool every time I see one.
 
3rd gens!

All about the 3rd gens! Classic look, plenty of power and did I mention, dang sexy?! I just bought one a few days ago, 2002 with 149,000 miles. Always wanted one as a kid so I figures why not!
 
3rd Gen 96-98, 99-02 with the fat lip bumper just don't do it

1st gen is nice being able to take off the top. Bought my 1st one in 1986 with 1500 miles on the clock

5th gen front end is fugly as hell.
 
I'll give a biased vote for the 2nd gen, if you can get one with a 22re.... There's literally step-by-step instructions to straight axle them. You can easily turn them into crawlers or just simple and reliable off road machines. The 2nd gen is still a plentiful and relatively cheap as well....

i've owned the 1st gen when i was in high school and that thing still drives like a champ with over 250k miles. LOVED IT.

i now own the 5th gen and i just love the overall new look of the 5th gen. in love with the front end of the new T4R! looks mean! :infidel:
