Feel like I have a bird living in my dash....

Just about to drive me crazy. The noise sounds like a metal chirp when going over bumps. To me it sounds like it is in the dash.

I did some searching and found this, but I am not sure this is the sound I would be hearing. Anyone else think this could be is source?

it's your windshield/frame, not the dash.

stuff a rag all the way down between your dash and the windshield.

mine was incessant, hasn't chirped since.

Make sure it is thin enough to really get down there, I used a rag from those "rag in a box" deals @ Home Depot. Stuffed it down with a pry bar.

it is one of the plastic clip that holds the dash to the body has come loose. This happens when you tried to remove the dash. I have a cracked dash in my car and i am not goin to replace it mainly because of this reason.

When you put a towel that will push the dash towards the body and put it in place.

Remove the dash and use brand new clips (OEM) to put it back in.

Obviously i could push it further down, but i would prefer to be able to remove it. Considering the real problem requires tearing a dash apart (12 hours labour) i think 30 seconds with a rag sounds like the correct reasonable solution to me. It's a vehicle of function, not fashion. Who cares? If i decide to build it as a show car, ill promise to hire you to rip my dash apart

A good fix for this is erasers. Go to Walmart and get yourself 3-4 of those soft rectangular, white erasers. You could plasti dip them black if you want. Then stick them in there evenly spaced and voila.

This windshield/dashboard chirp is common on a lot of imports. This is a trick my buddy taught me a long time ago when he had his MX-3. It had the same problem.

Thanks for all the responses! I need to replace the windshield because of a crack from the previous owner. Would this in any way help or is it actually in the dash itself. The reason I ask is because if a new windshield would help I would scrounge up the money to replace otherwise its going to run like this for a while. :thumb3:

Man, just stuff a dang rag or some erasers in there, it takes 30 seconds and it stopped everyone's problem. Then replace your windshield anyways. I don't get the hesitation....

naw i'm with him, seems like there must be a better "cleaner" way.....possibly a pop rivet or something? is there really no way of pinning it off other than wedging it was a shop rag or erasers? i would be disappointed by this as well; if i didn't really care how my truck looked i'd be driving some cheap 80's solid axle for $800 bucks beating the crap out of it, this is a jeep guys type of fix, i thought we're meant to be better than that? lol

I've had this problem too. I didn't want to have a towel or something like this on the dash, I think it looks horrible, so I took the dash apart and fixed the plastic clips(rolling some duct tape around the clip will work). It wasn't a 12 hour labor job since I've done this within a day. Just be very careful and be patient to not broke or scratch the dash or other trim pieces. To put the dash back together was a little PITA, but I was in a hurry and a little nervous lol

Although I would like a "cleaner" solution there is no hesitation. I am just wondering if a new windshield that I already need would at all alleviate the issue. It sounds like it would only help the fact that the current windshield is cracked. So tomorrow I will be purchasing some erasers because spending all day removing the dash and putting it all back together sounds like no fun at all to me.

The new windshield won't help anything, because the problem is on the plastic clips. Do the "erasers" solution and tell us if it fixed the problem.

12 hours? Come on now, unless you've got one hand and only a pair of pliers for the job, pulling and replacing the dash realistically take a maximum of 6 hours.

I've only done it 3 times, but my last one took about 1 hour to remove and 2 to put it back. Those clips don't require removing the entire dash, either.

how would you go about getting to these clips? I am all about fixing this issue but the whole removing the whole dash didn't sound like fun to me. can you explain how to get to these clips without removing the dash?
