I've used those panels at work to go around well heads on Marcellus wells. It is VERY strong stuff. I've personally seen a cow standing on a piece spanning about a 4' gap on a well cellar and it didn't break. Bowed....yes, but didnt break. The panels we always get at work are 4'x8'. If you have any oil and gas supply stores around you may check with them for the larger panels.
 
That's an excellent material, especially if you're dealing with saltwater that would hasten rusting of steel racks.

Ha, didn't know you were on here. ExPo is where I first saw the idea - credit to you.

I have my awning brackets hanging in the garage drying with the final coat of paint. Should go on in the next few days hopefully.

It's a 15' square stern aluminum canoe. Probably only ~50lbs if I had to guess.

Who knows if I was even the first to do it on Expo! It just works too damn well not to do.

I am still trying to decide whether or not I want to spend money to buy brackets to lift the fibergrate off the roof. My rack loves to accumulate oak leaves that never find their way out. I've had these in my cart on Amazon for a while, I just can't decide if it is worth the money.
 
Whoever thought of it first , it's a great idea ! That fibergrate is awesome stuff just crazy expensive . About 15 years ago I got about 200 sq. ft. out of a green house for free , so I use all over the house and barn .

I haven't, but as long as the needed brackets for the RTT fall within the 48x48 inch foot print of the rack, it could definitely be done. There are premade stainless steel clips that allow for a vertical clamping force on the fibergrate, but I'm not that familiar with how the RTTs mount.

I'm sure this would handle an RTT just as well as any other rack, but the real advantage to this solution is that nearly anything can be placed up on the rack and strapped down at any location on the rack, since there are so many tie down spots.
 
Just saw this and I'm interested. I have a thule roof basket and its too high profile for my liking. It doesn't look like I'm too far from you so maybe I can pick one up in the next week or two. :hatsoff:
