This is such a great idea! It's simple and cost effective compared to a lot of other bulky racks out on the market. Got mine all finished up and I'm super happy, thanks Sean!

This stuff is strong! I was able to stand on top of it on my 4Runner.

I cut mine to 44"x48"

Clears the roof line in the middle. Just about as low pro as you can get for the money.

I secured some quick fist clamps with zip ties to the rack. Holds everything just fine.

First impression I'm very happy. Highly recommend to anyone that's considering it.

These still up for offer? Or do I need to source my own now? I tried the Curt rack, low profile mount, ended up jacking my roof up because of bowing.

Need it for what Drew is using it for, plus maybe some Rotopax down the line.

Unfortunately my source for getting the fibergrate at such a reduced cost has gone away. I can't really offer these at a competitive cost compared to other options anymore. If I ever happen to find it again, I'll let you know.

I can not stop thinking about how to get this stuff in my cash range.
I can get plenty of scrap pieces of galvanized grating but would look ugly compared to the fiberglass greating/ fibergrate.

I even saw some fibergrate that was safety yellow. I think that would be awesome. now just to source some.

I got mine on Amazon. McMaster Carr and other industrial supply sites have it as well. I don't remember the exact cost, but it's still cheaper than buying a nice steel rack. Of course you can go with a Curt rack or a Thule basket, but to me those look cheesy and aren't functional for my needs.

I've been running this style of rack for almost two years. It's been great for hauling a canoe. I have used some Smittybilt brackets to raise the rack further from the roof and I mounted a RTT to it a few months ago. The brackets helped to raise the fibergrate off the roof, which made attaching the RTT way easier.

I suppose price is not bad if compared to other racks, as you mention.

I haven't noticed any increase in wind noise with the rack on.
