fender flare options

i have a 97 4runner sr5 and it does not have the fender flares, im new to the site and not sure what options i have to get some... any info will help. im really looking for something easy to do and im not really looking to drill.

how much do you want to spend?

New ones from a dealership are outrageous expensive. Your choices are Sport flares, Limited flares, or SR5 black plastic flares.

Bushwackers will run about $350 shipped to your door. Obviously I am biased since I went that route- but they are a quality product. I had mine installed by a professional body shop. Drilling is required as the back door pieces are screwed into a mounting piece which is affixed to the door itself. Rivets are used in other places.

You can still use the SR5 wide flares without drilling, just use a form of automotive gasket maker commonly known as a Form In Place Gasket- an RTV used for oil pans and such. I used a very similar product called "gloozit", this stuff dries hard yet remains flexible and super strong...It alone would've worked without using clips like I did..but finding a complete set of these flares will take patience as they're not easy to find..Ron Helmuth assisted me in a big way achieving them.

SR5 black plastic flares are probably your best bet, it requires absolutely no drilling as they're mounted by screws under your wheel wells. If you have the chrome trim just remove 'em and use the exact mounting locations.

Limited flares...just too much work involved I think.

thanks for all the info, i will look up both fender flares. i was looking at ebay and Bushwackers have a set for the 4runner and it says its a 4 piece set, and there more pieces then that? oh yeah an i also have the running boards, will bushwackers look flush with the boards?

i will look into the sr5 flares, i do have the chrome triming on mines also so that will be an easier bet. the hard part is just finding them... thanks again.

I have the wide 2000 sport flares, same width as the limited flares. I would like to get rid of mine, not going to happen.

Funny how that those that have flares don't want them and those that don't do want them.

I would like to remove my flares but I wont because the factory flares are held on with square clips that would leave square holes in my fenders. Sorry but I'm going to have to keep my flares.
