Fender flare "pad" for SR5 flares. Anything besides OEM work?

I have a set of the SR5 black factory flares to install. My truck is white and a base model. I have to drill the rear holes for this. So I am paranoid of the chance it fits slightly less then OEM tightness to the paint. I remember my last runner had some spots where it seemed to rub the paint.

I wanted to put rubber trim under it like the Tacoma trucks do. It's like $120 from my dealer just for the rubber trim. About $90 off ebay to buy the shit. Has anyone successfully used a different material/product to accomplish this barrier from flare to paint?

I vaguely remember seeing something about a year ago. I've tried searching but not typing the right keywords to bring it up. I have only found one person online recommending VW seals and then one person followed up saying it wouldn't work..

So; anyone have a suggestion short of $90-$120 for stupid rubber seals? I will go without, but I'd rather keep my super nice paint looking that way underneath these flares even. Thanks

I guess it will rest on the paint. My dealer wants just under $200 for 4 sections of rubber trim like Tacoma's have using part numbers I found searching. Ebay is cheaper but still not a practical amount of money.

Nothing from my local 4x4 shops either.

Bushwhacker makes some cheaper trim. I know that it requires drilling in the rear, but I just used a washer with the screws that were already on it.

This is what I used. It's cheap ($1.50/foot) and very effective and looks great. I bought 25 feet and still had some left over after doing my flares. Not sure if it'll look good with the white though.

Recently been searching for a fender replacement as well, these are the part numbers I was given for the SR5 with fender flares. I don't recall the price but might be worth a check for the molding piece you are looking for. I don't think it was that expensive.

Thank you, the bold print is the stuff I was seeing on certain sites for $22-$26 EACH. I have found some others for $13ish per corner. I will probably stomach $55 bucks to have them on there and not trash my paint.

I will check around and report back what it ends up costing me. I got my SR5 flares for only $40 so I guess I can't complain if I'm into them about $100 total :shrug:

The part number for front flares in BLACK is 53853-35020 the extra letters at the end are for color matched flares an they have various colors.

Found a pair for $24 for the front. My rear flares fit very tight so I'm not going to worry about those just yet.
