I have been thinking about REMOVING my stock flares on my sport edition. They make it hard to see my wheels for offroad tire placement purposes. The other option is wheel spacers.

I just thought that was ironic...one guys wants them, another wants them gone...

you should have seen what my ride looked like the other day after the snow -all the wheel spray was blasted down both sides of the body.

The Bushwackers I had on my '97 are just slightly slimmer than the OEM Limited flares but mimic stock qite well but giving the 4Runner a slightly different look and they give you a couple of options on the front bumper piece.
My friend who's a paint guy painted the flares for me and they came out really nice.

CSL- remember if you remove the widebody Limited flares there are holes left behind on the sides.

RON- The fenders are exactly what i want....it is hard to tell how they look/the size of them because of the difference in color (gloss black/red) but they seem like the same as the limited oem...Are you happy with the way the gloss turned out?

TRD- your ish is looking smooth!!! your runner sits really nice...I love that look....the mild lift with a 31/32" tire...Its amazing how different it looks with a little lift and a bigger tire....it doesnt even look like the same truck in any way....GOOD JOB with your choices!!

285/75/16 is auctually 33" in most cases.

You also can't fit that size without 3" of lift...unless you wanna do a lot of pounding.

Well, I did it. Sport edition flares are off and big square holes are left.

Not that I didn't heed the warning, but I really wanted to be able to see my tires with my head out the window. I weighed function over looks, and that's what I got.

I sure as hell blew any chance of being the T4R of the month!

Honestly, I like the way it looks without them (if I blur my eyes so I can't see the holes). I will have to post up a thread and get some ideas from folks of what I should do to fill them so water doesn't drain into my panels.

Here's the Bushwacker Extend-a-flares on my '97. They were painted but don't need to be to look good.

Actually,

The flares on the gold 'runner are Bushwacker replicas of the "Highlander" flares. They are made of hard ABS plastic and are not the same as the factory ones. I have those on my 4Runner and I like them somewhat. The rear flare uses the factory non-flare mudflap instead of a extension like the Toyota ones. I'm running mine without the flap.

Also, the "Highlander" flare was offered by Toyota as a accessory. It is now discontinued though.

Does anyone have the flares from Performance?

Small known fact: while Sport Edition/SR5 and Limited Edition 4Runners have similar flares, they are still slightly different. Limited Editions have wider flares at the bottom, which allow the flare to "blend" into the running boards, which came standard on Limited Editions. On Sport Editions/SR5's, the bottom of the fender flares curve in slightly:

Thanks for the props but those pics are from '04 when I just had gotten my '99 and I sold the '97 a month later.

i have a 99' sr5 with the thin black flare.
i know if i wanted to install limited flares it would not fit or i would have to do some drilling

however can i look around for the Highlander flares and replace them with my flares?
