Fender flares on the limited 4runners

Your rig looks awesome Brian. Plastic or no plastic.
I think the 4th genes have much further to go to get away from a more.... "refined" look. Even then, a few changes, tires, front bumper, and a slight lift, they look cool too.

When I was looking for my 4runner, I felt the same way. I didn't really want all the plastic trim. I ended up with the skinny chrome flares. The real thing I wanted to avoid with the limited version was the beige steering wheel. I know its goofy, but I don't care for it. And..leather powered seats.

I have backed off the initial exclusion of these as cool options. All you have to do is poke around here on the forum a bit and see some baddies assuming examples of 4runners in ever shape and size.

The skinny chrome flares do more damage than good. If you offroad they do a great job of catching debris and then slowly eating away at your clear coat where they sit on the paint. The thin black ones are even worse for this. I know because I have both. And I actually prefer the thin chrome by a long shot. Thought about bushwacker but they will probably just scratch my paint and catch dirt as well.

LOL, I love my Base model Black steering wheel, no leather to wear out or replace. It looks as good as the day it came out of the showroom.

LOL, yea, my GF uses text/talk & I get some weird text messages! LOL. I hate using my phone to go on the internet. I'm getting old & love my 26" 1080P desktop monitor.
No I dont have any interior pics, except for my new rug install in 2014. I'll have to take some the next time I detail her. She's in really good condition.

I think a lot of people don't like the Limited Flares because of the 2-tone color. If they were color matched, they would look a whole lot cleaner and meaner.

I like my 99 Limited and I actually prefer the flares, but i feel that the 2-tone actually makes it look a bit cheap. It really emphasizes the plastic feel of it. About the only color that I like the 2-tone look of is the Royal Blue Pearl with the silver flares. And then I kinda moan like a sick animal when I see one driving down the street...

To the people who don't pick a limited JUST for the flairs; Google a color matched version of the $runner you're interested in, and if that changes your mind, simply get a few spray bottles of color matched paint and paint your flares...

Does anyone know whether it's possible to remove the flares and cladding, and then put them back on? I have a 2001 Limited and I want to paint the body a different color than factory then put the flares and cladding back on.

Yes. There is a thread dedicated to specifically removing and replacing Limited flares. Search Google for 3rd Gen 4Runner Limited Cladding Flare Removal

To answer the op.

The answer to this is anything is possible but would not be easy. The Limited flares body cladding is attached with plastic clips that are attached with Squares and rectangles in the metal body of the fenders and doors. These are about 1/2inch each and would need to be patched/welded and would be quite a job+repainting.
Long story short look for a SR-5 model with these flares. They just un-bolt and can be taken off.

I really wanted to take off my limited flares since they really need to be taken off and re-attached at this point, and bedline the whole truck. But there are a lot of holes to fill, more than it's worth in my opinion. I plan to take them off, re-finish, re-clip, and new seals.

Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster, Please excuse my English, I live in Argentina.

Two monts ago I bought a 1998 4cyl, manual, 4x4 with 85000 kilometers on it (only one previus owner and the guy did all services at oficial toyota).

So it came with those thin plastic and crome fenders, and I whant to replace those with the ones in the picture posted by Kram 1976, does anybody have some for sale or parts numbers so I could search for them ?
