Fender liner mod

I’ve searched and read and watched videos. This is supposed to be, and really looks quite easy, but of course I get under my truck and can’t do it.

This is a 2011 SR5 and in my research I haven’t found any pictures I think look similar. In the pic below the stuff lined in red is raised so the brackets for the screws can’t move past that. Also the whole liner seems to be one piece which is giving resistance to pushing it forward.

You can see where I cut out the front hole with the screw and washer, except I’m not getting compression enough to hold liner forward when I drive the screw while pushing the liner. Second pic you can see I got a little movement, but not enough or where the tire is rubbing.

This should’ve been real simple but is getting very frustrating, anyone got any input? Do I just need to cut out where it’s rubbing?

Also I’m running SCS Ray10s with stock TRD Pro take offs. I didn’t think I would have any issues with rubbing, is this normal?

Use a heat gun to push the fender liner in first and see if that solves the issue, if not you drill in a new hole and put screwable clips and you push the fender liner forward and then screw it in.

Depending where you rub. You may have to do some light trimming on the bumper.

I did this yesterday too. Although part of it is raised the plastics so thin and pliable I just put the screw through it and is sucked it down pretty flat.

Yeah I took a break, then went back and looked at it fresh. Definitely not as straight forward as the 14+ look, but just took a little more massaging. Focused more on the bolt closest to the tire and did some cutting on the liner around it to get things to work. Got just enough to clear the tire.

I was dealing with this same situation yesterday and ended up drilling a new hole, shaving off some plastic with a Dremel to allow the clip to move closer to the wheel well, and then using a heat gun to flatten the plastic. That all seemed to do the trick and I was able to gain 1.5-2” of additional clearance and eliminate all rubbing.
