I just dont like the idea of removing the core.... I know lots and lots of people do it and it does in fact air down fast as hell, but just seems like something that could potentially screw up. Also, it doesnt seem too precise (not that precise is necessarily needed...), the dude just says, you want 15 psi out... well, count to 15.

I went with the Stauns - I have em pre set to 20lbs, get out of my truck and place one on each tire. My the time I'm done tuning my bypass shocks to their "off road" setting, all my tires are at 20 psi. Ive checked the accuracy repeatedly and its usually right at 20 lbs, if not, then it is always within .5psi pos. or neg. Simple, bombproof.

My thoughts.
 
Any issues with the O-Rings in the Stauns? That has been the turn off for them and the Smittybilt deflators from what I have read.

Not so far, I've used em probably 20+ times since I got em at x-mas and no issues yet. The nice thing is you have 4 of em, one o-ring blows out I can just swap another one on there.

That does remind me, I should check which o-rings they use and order some extras on McMaster Carr.
 
Thanks for the info man. I just purchased the Tuff Stuff deflators (same as the Smittybilt) for $26 shipped on eBay on sale. Normally $40. Hope they work out and I do not have to turn around and buy the Stauns in a few months :lol:

I have a set of Trailheads and a set of Stauns.

I prefer the Stauns for the convenience of having a manual pull start in case they don't start on their own plus not needing a wrench.

As for the supposed Traihead feature of being able to roll with them as you air down, you can do that with Stauns, too. The difference, imo, is Staun has the sense not to say you can.

The ones you got look like a great deal.

Someone beat me to it - I use the TrailHeads when I go down to the ORV in the Cape. I get out, screw them on, and have a beer. It takes about 2-3 minutes to deflate mine down to ~9 psi. I have stock size tires, but e-load, so I run 44 psi normally. I've never had a problem with them and I use them every other weekend. I dialed them in correctly the first time and haven't touched them since - I double check the pressures every time just to be certain and it's always spot on.

Haha McMaster-Carr. Not too many people know about them on this forum I bet! I have been getting things from those guys since before the internet.

I to do not like the idea of removing the core every time you air down.

So I also went with the TrailHead Deflators. So far they are great.

Not sure I would want to drive with them on while airing down... but they are fast enough that I haven't found a need to even think about that.

Me too. We'll see what happens when I go to 33ish, but right now my 31ish tires air down from 38 to 15 psi in about 5 minutes using the Trailheads, and that's plenty fast enough.

They take forever to deflate, but they seem to be decent. Honestly, I rarely use them. I can deflate all four in half the time using a regular pressure gauge.
 
I was looking at the ARB kit but I don't like the idea of removing the cores - I would wind up losing one eventually.
