Few pics from all the smoke from the fire up here near Fort Collins, CO

I've always wanted to work for the US Forest Service as a wildland firefighter but since I'm profoundly deaf, it's not possible... :(

We were a type one contract crew with a really good rep (all the forest service guys are going "contract crew? good rep? bullpucky!"). Kinda awesome, because on the bigger fires we'd get staged somewhere on quick response detail, and sit around all day on the clock playing cribbage and working on our tans :D, and then when we got the call it'd be for initial attack. No gridding or digging secondary for us, it was great.

I was real close to trying out for BLM smokejumpers, but then I tore up my ankle on a ski slope and dq'd myself. Now I'm a bitter broken old man with a desk job, lol.

haha yeah that's what i wanted to do too. The funny thing is the jumpers apparently don't have to hike as much but their pack test is double the hotshot requirements. It would be a sick job for sure! I was on a type 2 IA crew, so we had to do all the crappy jobs but still got some good fire action.

that sucks about your injury man. I just got out of shape sorta while going to school So I was hesitant in applying. Our crew boss was a CrossFit Nazi, so yeah i'd prob fail the fitness test miserably

that sucks man, when those things flare up with all the tall trees, they get so loud you cant even hear anything. It's a rush for sure!

Here are ours from the fire as well, it was pretty crazy the other day. Sounds like things are getting under control now.

PS: def not rain clouds, that is all smoke from the other day. We were trying to work outside on the porch. But the ash and smell were horrible.
