We were a type one contract crew with a really good rep (all the forest service guys are going "contract crew? good rep? bullpucky!"). Kinda awesome, because on the bigger fires we'd get staged somewhere on quick response detail, and sit around all day on the clock playing cribbage and working on our tans

, and then when we got the call it'd be for initial attack. No gridding or digging secondary for us, it was great.
I was real close to trying out for BLM smokejumpers, but then I tore up my ankle on a ski slope and dq'd myself. Now I'm a bitter broken old man with a desk job, lol.
