Running boards and off-roading

Hello,
Are running boards considered a hindrance when off-roading?
I am not sure if they are likely to get banged up, and it would be better to purchase a 4R with no running boards.

I purchased my 4R w/o running boards, added N-Fab nerf/steps shortly after and have since moved to sliders.

It depends on how aggressive you off-road, but yes, you get a slight reduction in ground clearance with the running boards but even with them on your can still do a lot.

Its also very easy to remove after you buy the truck.

Depreciation of TRPPro

Does the TRDPro model depreciated less than the ORP trim?

Its about an extra 1k for the PRO vs. the ORP with moonroof...wondering if it will pay off when it comes time to trade in the vehicle.

The reduction will be how ever much further the particular model of running boards/nerfs/steps hangs down.

Although the low hanging running boards do reduce the break-over angle, it's not the reduced clearance that is the biggest problem. Running boards are designed to be a step, not a vehicle support rail. With weak factory running boards they can be pushed up into the rocker panels and doors when they get bent while off-roading. This can cause more damage than not having anything.

The first mod I did was to add plain straight Domello rock sliders. There are several good brands to choose from: Shrockworks, Bud Built and others. They're beefy and can support the weight of the truck when you land on rocks, dirt berms or logs. This is the best way to avoid expensive damage to the rocker panels (body panels below the doors) and the doors.
