field monitor?

I've managed to locate a 3rd gen hilux field monitor with all complete and working parts. Now the question is will it be worth the $100 to buy it, have it shipped to a friend of a friend in england (where it is being sold, cant be shipped out of country) who will then ship it to me. the price of shipping to his house is approx. $15. i have no idea how much it weighs so i have not a clue what i would expect to pay to have it shipped here from london. any ideas? would it be worth it?

I've been searching for one of these for weeks and i found one. im just trying to see if this would be worth it or if i should be looking somewhere else?

Its a cool mod, dont get me wrong I enjoy my hilux field monitor.. It cost me $150 back when they were readily available from a guy in New Zealand.

But, that right there is a lot of hassle for a digital compass and thermometer.

It seems like it will be. id be willing to do it depending on shipping from the guy in London to here. im just getting opinions. i wish there was something comparable i could use instead that was just as cool.

If you can keep the total cost around 150 then it would be comparable to how a lot of us used to get ours. So I would say do it.

I doubt it will be 150 from there to here. that would mean shipping would be 40 bucks from his home to mine, and knowing my luck it wouldnt be that low. but its not as easy as entering two locations and a shipping weight to get an estimate. UPS want a book of info i wasnt willing to answer.

I think it's the ultimate mod to get done. Not many people have done it and it's definitely a great show and tell mod for my friends. Although I don't wheel any, it's going to be a aesthetic mod. the most hardcore thing I do is gravel and dirt roads in Alabama. No rocks or mud because my runner is stock.

i guess there isn't anything else out there. i've spent $2600 in maintenance and repairs in the last 12 months and thought i would treat myself to some I "wanted" that wasn't essential and expensive.

A K&N air intake, field monitor, or something else. What would be worth pissing $300 bucks away on?

I think a scangauge (or in your case an Ultragauge) would be a much better use of money.

You can get some sliders for around 200 also.

Get a Subaru gauge pack, pretty much the same thing that you can find here in the US for much cheaper.

Theres lots of threads where people ask what they can buy with 200, 300, 400 bucks. And there are tons of answers. I suggest looking at the build thread sticky and finding stuff you like in peoples builds.

I could have shown you my Ultragauge the other day. Definitely worth the money.

I'm working on some sliders now as well but having a hard time getting some 1¾ hrew tubing. A machine shop is ordering me 20ft sticks @ $50 a piece but I'm having to wait til they get an order up or I'll be paying double that.

You have the mechanical odometer in your 97. Not sure that could be done in your price range you listed.

DHL is how I would ship it. Was $80 for 2 day shipping of some heavy cats and midpipes for my BMW.
