Fightman's Build Thread

Well done. Thanks for the pics. My boots are still kicking after some lifting, but I fear it won't be long before I have to perform the same task. So, to be clear, it is a 30mm nut? For some reason, I always thought it was 34mm or 35mm. Not sure where I got that from.

On a side note, I am about fed up with the white stuff too. I see all these people wheelin' in nice, warm places and here I am looking out at a spring that is still winter. Maybe I should start calling this season 'Sprinter'.

Mine was a 30mm nut.... but it may be different if you're axles are not the same as mine. Mine might be aftermarket.... but I don't know for sure... I've never changed mine.... but the P.O might have.
 
Hopefully your rides and the school bus have received their baths by now.

The standard size bolt for the axle is a 35mm. In Canada, who knows? The CVs look OEM.

The rotors are great! And that caliper I un-seized is still working great. I just wish the paint I used on the caliper, would have held up as well... :D

The school bus didn't make the trip up here.... wife is now my own private building contractor ;) and is a stay at home mom. :)

AS for the CV's, they look OEM... not sure why the size difference... weird! lol!

Indeed strange. I will just have a take a peek at mine and bust out the measuring-a-ma-bob to see for myself before getting a socket for it.

On a side note, is spring finally 'springing' where you are? I am finally starting to see what is left of my lawn here.

It's starting to come.... yet snow keeps falling, everytime we get a good thaw... :( lol!

The trucks are still dirty... :D
 
It is with deep sorrow, and with a heavy heart, that I announce the following.... Mean Green has succumbed to a condition that is common for vehicle of 16yrs of age. :(

The condition seems to have come out of nowhere, and has progressed aggressively. As a result, Mean Green will be admitted into Vehicular Hospital, and undergo a procedure which will allow it's rusty, blistering paint to be repaired and returned to it's former healthy self! :D

All kidding aside, I'm a little saddened by this, and will have to save up some funds to have her repainted this summer. Currently, the rust is minimal and located beneath the passenger side rear fender trim.

I'd post a pic, but I've already bandaged her up with grease to suspend the activity and ensure it doesn't get any worse until it can be painted. :/
 
HA HA! Thanks for the concern boys.... She's safe and sound... just washed the mud off of her from my drive back from work.... and found that spot while hosing it off. Those are the joys of living in the "rust belt" lol!

I'm still impressed with the truck.... as bad as it is up here for rust.... she's still in better shape than most 4Runners up here. I always see 3rd Gens that are in far worse condition than mine is... and mine is really not that bad at all. :)
 
I am amazed it took this long. My uncle used to sell a type of Bondo while in Quebec by the gallons back in the 90s. Owners of GM fleet trucks were his biggest buyers.

Nothing is better than a fresh coat of new paint for Mean Green.
 
Absolutely... just hope I can save the money to do it... I'm in the process of doing some renos on the house, and just found out I have a big issue with my house foundation that needs to be taken care of.... :/
 
Well, got some cool stuff done on my Tacoma, and new parts for the 4Runner... but photobucket won't let me upload my pics??? I'm really starting to hate Technology! :p
 
I must look into this.... flickr thing you speak of.... ;) Been using photobucket for years.... only recently has it stopped uploading my pics... got a cool DVD install to show off on my Taco, and some sweet front stabilizer links I bought for the 4Runner.... gah! :D

Bummer Rob! Rust blows and I know how hard it is to fight it off up here. Although I suspect/know that your chemicals/salt out East are even worse than ours here in AB. Nonetheless, you've done well fighting it off for this long. I vote you remove that fender trim so no more salt/dirt gets trapped between there and the fenders for future longevity's sake. Dont tell anyone, but the Duster had a tiny bubble of rust in the rear quarter panel as well, about the size of a penny. It made me sick. lol

HA HA! I'm not alone! lol! Yeah definitely a bummer.... Thanks for checking in Addison...

That being said.. my wife surprised me this afternoon. When I woke up from a snooze on the couch, to find that she had washed my old girl for me. I was smiling ear to ear when I saw the old girl, cleaned of all the mud and sand from the drive to work....

Unfortunately, it didn't last.... I Then I decided to fold down the rear tire carrier, and saw something I wasn't happy to see..... the paint was cracked and spiderweb'd! Damn paint shop that did the repair 2 summers ago did a shitty job on the truck, had to redo it... and obviously didn't do much better of a job afterward.... because it's all fugged up again!! :(

I'm planning on repainting the old girl.... but still hurts the ticker to see her showing her age... lol!
 
Well, it's been a busy few weeks! I've been working tons of Overtime, working on my house, dealing with a foundation issue, lawyers, contractors, and still making time to work on my 2 trucks! Lol!

My wife and I started to redo our livingroom, which involved ripping down the old plaster ceiling, and redoing it... She took this pic of me.. Because I didn't have a.breathing mask... Lol!

While was at it, I painted the silver piecs of the dash black..

I started removing the rust on the rear quarter panel on the 4Runner...

So far, I've grinded it down, added some fresh paint, and applied some grease to the inner lip and under the fender trim.... More pics of that to follow...

Also, replaced my Oem broken front stabilizer links with ones from Mikestudt...

I've also refreshed the paint on my driving lights, rear tire carrier, and started filling in the paint chips from this winter's beating.... :D
